    Default New engine

    Hi all,

Bought my '02 3.2 GSI on saturday from a friend of my neighbours. I asked him to check with dealers that he bought it from when the timing belt had been changed last. (car is at 53K). He told me last night that a brand new engine had been fitted 15K miles ago and said that it had been replaced under warranty. He wasn't sure of the reason.

The car runs perfectly. Just wondering if the engine had been replaced under warranty then there would surely be some documentation to reflect this? Also would there not be a warranty with a new engine?

Not sure whether i should be happy that i've got a 15K mile engine in a 52K car or worried that it sounds a bit dodgy.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

    Roddy

It depends what kind of new engine, some ppl say this but neglect to add that it came from a donor car etc, only piece of mind you will have for sure is to replace the belt anyway, do the rollers as well.

Although the new engine number should of been recorded on their records. (the old number may still be on the V5). If it was done under warranty then it will come with a years Guarentee.(presuming it was a genuine new/reconditioned vauxhall part!!)

if the lump was fitted under wartantee it would have run out when the car run out of warantee .........so if you had a new engine fitted one day before the warantee was up the new engine would only have 1 days warantee .....but i think vx are open to help you in the first 12 mnths .....

I got a new engine about 1 month before the warranty ran out. As benny says when the warranty runs out then the new engine cover will do too. I got on to Griffin house loads of time by phone and letter but they would not shift. The only paperwork I got with mine was like an ID sheet for the new engine (in German) just numbers and codes I then had to use it to change details with DVLA.

right....well, the only good news i can offer RoddyKFC is that the V6 is a tough unit and failures are very rare..i've ran mine to well over 200,000 in the past, and this one looks to be heading the same way with nothing more than routine servicing....

if i had a car with a new engine in it, at that mileage , i wouldn't be too worried..
BTW, the warranty would have expired by now, so unless he had a 3rd party warranty or networkQ then he'd have had to pay..
