    Default VX Paintwork warranty

    Morning gang

I've got laquer peeling on a number of panels on my motor, so I thought I should check it out to see if it is something that could be looked at under warranty. Before I visit the local dealer, I thought I would email customer services, this is the response I have got:

Thank you for your email dated 18 June 2007, regarding your Vauxhall Astra, registration number **** ***.

I can confirm that the paintwork warranty is 12 months from the 1st registration and the anti-perforation warranty for vehicles registered after 1 October 2000 is 6 years from date from 1st registration.

It would be very difficult to decide from this office if the problems on the vehicle are covered by the anti-perforation warranty. Therefore I would respectfully suggest that you contact a franchised Vauxhall dealership who will be able to inspect the vehicle.

Please note that in order to maintain the validity of the anti-perforation warranty, the vehicle has to be inspected at the time of each service by an authorised Vauxhall dealership.

Thank you for contacting Vauxhall Motors and allowing me the opportunity to comment.

What do you think they mean by the comment in red? Are they are saying that if I had a service elsewhere they would teach me a lesson? Basically it's only had one service and it WAS done with VX dealer.

    Comments appreciated!

Yep, it states that quite clearly in your service schedule booklet (the bit you highlighted in red).

If you ask them to do the anti-perforation warranty inspection at the same time as a service it will be FOC and they will stamp the relevant page in the book in that section.

Thanks D. So as I didn't ask them to do this at the first (& only) service, I'm now stuffed?

does that mean that if you DONT specifically ask for the perforation check at the time of service they wont do it and your warranty in this respect is void?

Yes. i had that with my Vec B, it was 2 years old, serviced at the same Vx dealer I brought it from but never I asked for the anti-perforation warranty inspection so it was never stamped. When paint started to fall off the bumper, I was told it wasn't covered as the anti-perforation warranty was never carried out. Learnt my lesson from that always ask for it now with any dealer, any make

Ok, so this puts me out the game. Not my car, so not a horrendous deal.

But, hopefully a lot of people will read this thread and remember it as it's obviously not something everyone is aware of.

that's ridiculous that you have to ASK them to when it SHOULD be done as part of the service.

I know we have had a few cars do this at work and when we have taken them back for paint problems they have tried to say we have had them painted AFTER purchase, when we haven't, they have denied 14 claims thus far.
