    Default Vec 3.2 Gsi

    Need some help lads.
Went to see a 54 plate Vec Gsi yesterday and was well impressed. It was in my fav colour star silver so life is perfect.

What I need to know is what specs should I expect xenons etc ,and any issues I should look for.Is the fuel as bad as some say.My 2.5 Vec B was modded and returned 26mpg so anything around that should be ok.

How does the C compare to the B model.

Also the head unit has a tape deck so should it have a multi changer in the boot ?
Is the Cam belt change on this engine around 40,000 as its just hit 42,000

    Cheers for any advice

54 plate should have most of the toys

    i get between 23 & 27mpg depends how i drive it

c is bigger and faster than the b

i have tape deck and also a 4 cd multi changer in the same unit so u should have it too

yes the cam belt needs changing at 40,000

tell him to put a new belt on b4 u buy it otherwise its a £350 bill for u to do it.

you should expect split climate control, rain sensing wipers, auto dipping interior mirror, 1/2 leather at least..

the official interval for the cam belt is 80,000..but i dare any one to leave it that long....

Fuel is a bit like how you drive it.. i drive mine hardish, and get around 22-25 average.. kick it hard and you'll see 4mpg easily...but shove cruise on at 70 on the m-way and you'll easily see over 30mpg..

I get on average 26mpg with mixed driving, or 18mpg if it's pure town driving. It's more down to the driving than the engine though as you can easily see over 3mpg like Mark says, but it's hard to drive a car like this slowly when there's so much fun to have, you just end up being a bit throttle happy for the hell of it.

Toys wise, self leveling xenon's will show that it's probably not ben in an accident as well as headlight washers (although these seem to be questionable at the moment as to which year gets them, my '53 plate did). Check the dual climate works and the electric mirrors as my n/s won't move vertically.

Check the oil filler neck for mayo as this is an area that Mark highlighted some time ago that suffers from condensation with it being outside the engine. It can be used to blag an oil service, but many of us just removed the filler neck and refitted the cap to eliminate mayo build up in the filler neck & cap.

Comparing it to the Vec B, I moved from a 2.5 GSi to the 3.2 GSi and found myself asking the same questions almost this time last year. The 3.2 is much more fun, but my personal opinion is that the B had a better build quality other than the old dash creaking, and the old GSi had better handling, but the power, huge spec list and much more modern look of the car & interior more than make up for it, I don't think I could go back to the old Vec B again.
