the really sad thing is Phil, that there is nothing that can be done medically for you....the hospital might be able to give you some drops to alleviate the pain, but apart from that, it's just time mate....

Tha bloke who was alloy welding needs a lesson in putting up flash curtains.. as he's responsible for your safety..

    Default Help is here

[QUOTE=fil 4822;312084] I've got welding flash today and it's bl00dy killing me to read the posts on here this evening.
    NURSE !

What I got told when I got a flash from an older guy (at that time!!) wad to peel a potato and put it into a plastic bag and squeeze it till you got a few drops of the liquid. Put a couple of drops into each eye and it will relieve the pain. I can assure you it owrks for me and every one else I tell this to. Its some thing to do with the starch in the juice that coats the eye etc etc. Try it and let me know how you get on if the pain is still there?

I've been a welder for almost 25 years and never had the flash this intense, what it is Mark, i'm operating a new plasma welding machine (new as in brand spanking shiney new - shinier than Ed Taylors car ! ).
We're still on a learning curve with the machine and this reflection issue is my major concern.
I've already pulled up management regarding the reflection problem and was hoping while i was away on holiday that the problem areas would be painted in matt black paint.
Went into work at 6a.m. this morning, told them i wasn't staying and gave them a round of *****s as this has now caused me to lose £££ in wages for the sake of a couple of spray cans !
I'm now at home some 18 odd hours after the pain started and it's only just beginning to fade, and i havn't had an hours sleep all night !

    SORRY - Rant over.

Never heard of that one, will try next time. nice one .
It's the rear of the eye that gets damaged as the eye lens concentrates the ultra violet to the back of the eye giving you that burning sand sensation.

If it dosn't work at least i'll have some chips to fry

Feels like grit in your eyes? No other thing to do than to wait for the damage to you eyes membrane to settle down and heal itself.

Don't rub them, well try anyway. Normal eye drops may help, but it really is a waiting game.

Get some screens up. Is you work place fairly dark anyway? This can lead to arc eye more easily, as the pupils are dilated due to poor lighting, and are therefor more susceptible to arcs. Strangely enough, it is normally arcs from the peripheral vision that is most at risk. Wearing safety glasses DOES reduce the risk as well.

Hope you get well soon. Then go to work, and discuss options for reducing the risk with the new kit.
