a bit of advice when buying a car

just a wee bit of advice for when you buy your next car, its a bit obvious but when you buy a newish car and you want faults that you have noticed rectified make sure the salesman logs the faults you want sorted prior to delivery. im saying this because i have been shafted by the dealer that i bought the wifes megane convertible from as i complained about the noisy clutch before i bought the car.to cut a long story short i now have to cough up £150 to have new clutch fitted (i haggled and argued to get the price reduced from £200! to say i am livid with them is an understatement ! we had the car less than a week and i had to fork out for two new tyres, then it broke down and had to have coils repaired (a common renault problem apparently). so as i have said already make sure that all the faults or wee problems you want sorted prior to delivery are sorted and if when you go to collect the car they are not, do not accept delivery until they are sorted, then hopefully you wont have the problems i have had

I get mine on finance, then you have some backup from the finance company.
Especially when you tell them the car is not to spec, sales talk etc.
When you cancel the finance agreement, they kick *** like no one else can, with the dealer!

the car is on finance mate,and they gave me extended years warranty (the cars an 02 plate) but as per usual the warranty is not worth the paper its written on although clutch is classed as a wear and tear item its not covered but i highlighted this when i ordered the car!

I don't know about scottish law Pogo, But under English trading standards law, the garage or trader who sold you the car has, themselves, to give you a 'warranty' period of 6 months from date of purchase in which time they have to fix faults FOC, as if the car develops a fault it is taken as it must have been present at time of purchase.

the tyres are obviously not covered, unless they where agreed to be changed as part of the deal, like the clutch) but the pencil coils should have been done free of charge to you by the supplying dealer..

May be one for you local trading standards

Yawn!! The worst car I've ever owned is a VW Passat. Guess that means that every VW (and associated companies) are cr@p.

Sorry Vectrapogo, I thought you had bought a second hand Vectra - Not a VW. As i was saying, you would definatly have comback then, as most VX dealers do the network Q warranty - which include 12 months on wearing surfaces, such as disks, pads and clutch. My last car (with 27,000mile on it) had the clutch and flywheel replaced FOC after 5 1/2 months.

It's had to visit the dealers, egr valve making noises, other than that it seems fine, eco's not bad 28-29 under stop start conditions, just nice to not have to wiggle the stick anymore for a while, does feel a funny not having the griffin in the steering wheel, still think Vx is a better car tbh.
