    Default Back from Florida

Hi peeps ! Got back from our Florida hols this morning and as usual - LOVED IT !

One thing that has supprised me though was since we were there last (3yrs ago) i can't believe how bad the standard of driving has got out there !
REMEMBER THE TV AD ....... "Only a fool breaks the 2 second rule ?" ( refering to the space between traveling vehicles )
In the States they work in MILLI-SECONDS !
Had quite a few scary moments, one being a rather MASSIVE 4x4 Lincoln something or other ( tag plate from Texas where everything is bigger - say no more ), needless to say he got some rather tastey English verbal and hand signals that the deaf wouldn't be able to read !

Our rental car was a Chevy Malibu 2.2 ( name says it all - Sh*te ) but got 28 to the gallon, although U.S. gallon is 1/2 ltr less than ours.

    Fuel is at $2.82 a gallon (£1.50)
Disney is still effing expensive ( but had 2 go with the kids)
    Weather was ....... HOT (92 F) some brilliant T-storms last week, 1 lasting nearly 9 hours !

But best of all is the Meguiars gear is half the price or less than here in the UK.
    I didn't buy any though ...........NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!
MEGS , ZYMOL , MOTHERS etc. cleared the shelves at Wal*mart !
No more visits to Halfrauds for years !

There were 2 things that made my holiday to Florida...............................

    1) I FINALLY saw the Atlantis space shuttle launch.
All i can say about that is TOTALLY AWSOME ! Worth the trip even though as you can imagine everywhere was packed with people and big campers with BBQ's strapped on the back ( PLASMA - ever considered doing that with a BBQ ??? ) i have welding kit - will travel .

    2) Even though i hate Disney's mentality of fleece the visitors for every $ they can , they sure know how to entertain !
The look on my kids faces will live with us forever .

Where should i go next year ? Any ideas folks ?

sounds like you had a good time mate.
shame the fuel isn't £1.50 a gallon here we could all afford to drive a vxr then lol.
next year why not try a cruse around the med very relaxing so i keep being informed by my lucky ******* of a neighbour ( who incidentily owns his own travel agency)

Hey Plasma - what if you get left behind at a set of traffic lights and panic sets in ? That BBQ becomes a viable option !

Its a bit of a culture shock, innit?.

I went back in the late 1990's and stayed at Lake Davenport in Kissimee.

Had a great time, did all the Disney stuff, water parks ( Blizzard Beach ) and the movie studios things. Didnt have time in a week to cram it all in though, didnt manage to get to SeaWorld and missed a shuttle launch by a week. The space center was excellent though, well worth the trip.

Driving there, I found was quite enjoyable. We had a Chrysler Voyager, I think it was a 3.0L or something.

I would go back, but its not a relaxing holiday for most of the time, you need to plan well ahead and set out what youre doing on each day or you end up chasing your tail.

I recall going into a massive food supermarket called Goodings and the guy at the door looked at us and handed us a leaflet......." You will need a map of the store".

He wasnt wrong either, absolutely enormous!!!.

To be honest, i'd like to try somewhere else as thats the 6th time we've done Orlando (+ 2 weeks at Clearwater Beach - Florida, which included a weekend in Disney ! ).
We were there for 3 weeks this time as it was our 14th wedding anniversay on 29th May and we're both 40 in the next couple or 3 months and it gets a bit repetitive.
Anyone got any recommendations on a long haul all inclusive (Dom Rep, Cuba etc. ?)
