    Angry Red Light Camera!!!

I'm highly peed off at the moment!!

Went to Cardiff for a work conference and left the hotel next to the millenium stadium to come home at 2pm. However there was a marathon going on and all the roads were closed. I needed to get going as it would take me 6 hours to get home so the girlfriend asked a police man how we could get out. He said to come out of the hotel carpark with our hazard lights on and he would clear us through onto the open road. Doing so he escorted us through a set of lights where the road was closed and over the bridge where we could continue on our journey. This morning I get a letter through the door informing me that I had gone through a red light at the set of traffic lights the officer had escorted us thorugh!! As you can imagine I am pretty miffed right now Anyone got any advice as to how I can deal with this?

    Cheers,

    Lee.

    Hi Lee,

I'm sure you must be ok if escorted by the police. Proving it though is the tricky bit.

The letter should have appeals advice, so follow that initially.

Maybe the pic even proves you to be correct if you are lucky.

Could ask the police in Cardiff their advice as well, maybe they could ask their officers who were covering if they remember the situation, if so you are deffo ok. In my experience the police are really helpfull if you ask their advice, it can't do any harm.

Hope this helps, I'm sure others on here will advise as well (MLC for one)

    Regards,

    Ian

As above. Get onto the Cardiff Police - see if they can find the officer that helped. If he escorted you through, I'm sure you could appeal successfully.

That's the problem with cameras, they only see black and white, not the situation that is going on!!

Thanks ION, Just been on the phone to one of me mates who is in the force and he said just to send a letter explaining that the road was closed to the public and that you had an office instruction to continue through the lights onto the public road. He reckons that the forms which are sent are automatic hence why I have recieved it. What I am worried about however is that there 10 good coppers to 1 awkward one and I hope I dont get the latter.

I will go to court if necessary though as surely a judge will see that this was an inocent case?

I wouldn't mind MLC's imput to this too if he is around .

    Thanks,

    Lee.

As already advised. Send a letter to the issuing ticket office explainig the circumstances in full. That shouls knock it on the head. Failing that, all the officers who were detailed to that event will be logged. It shouldn't be too difficult to find who it was. The Officer who did this will readily say so if asked.
You'd be surprised at just how many queries come our way with cases like these. All the best!

Bang on Duncan, I'm not going to go on cos we've covered it on here already elsewhere.

Seems to me like you'll be ok Lee, just annoying & time spent sorting it though.

Hope so, thanks for the input guy's, I will send a letter off on Monday with a small map showing the hotel and road which was closed off thus escorted out of. Fingers crossed eh.

What makes me laugh though is that a set of lights before that I may have got flashed at too however I had to drive through those on the wrong side of the road as mathon runners were oncoming on the other side lolol.

    Cheers,

    Lee.

If you got snapped, chances are the police car would have too, so there would be a record of that as the police have to account for RLC and Speed Camera activations.
