Default My LPG Conversion... the story so far...

Well just incase anyone is interested here is the story so far with my LPG conversion.

Dropped off my Audi A8 4.2 V8 with CLS Duel Fuel in Durham for a BRC kit LPG conversion. After alot of research I have decided for this kit as everywhere else in the world, it is a factory option fit for the majority of manufacturers, Subaru, Peugeot to name a few. Seems strange that the UK doesn't offer the option?

Well gone for the single rail down the centre of the engine to feed the 8 injectors on the car, a 80 litre donut tank in place of the spare wheel, having the LPG filling cap under the rear bumper so you can't see it and lastly the LPG gauge in the cigarette holder.

So will post up finished photos. To give you an idea of costs the conversion is £2000 fitted inc. vat. Will be payed off in fuel savings within 8 months with my mileage so it is going to be come uber cheap motoring for me soon

I have a courtesy car of a Citroen C1 1 Litre with LPG. Gets 100 miles to £4!!! Blimey!

    Lastly free plug - http://www.agpl.co.uk/

They have a Vectra 3.2 GT For Sale Estate that is LPG converted. Worth a look if you ask me any future C buyers!

This is what it will look like, but 8 cylinder

Hmm, interesting. My mate's currently looking at an LPG Jag XK8.
As to the C1, they're a amazing little car. I did 1,000kms in one in France last year -Atlantic to Med and back!

Brace yourself to have to take it back at least once Jon, it has to go in for a check over anyway at around a 1000 miles, but you might get the odd misfire, but it will get sorted out, and have a look at the lube kits, it throws in some UCL with the gas so things dont get too dry, about £6 a bottle I think.

I had a factory Vectra B LPG and to be honest it was a nightmare. Loss of power, regular faults and false economy. It only returned 25 mpg when running on gas, it felt like I was constantly filling it up with it having the small tank in the spare wheel recess. Not to mention the spare wheel filling the boot area up.

It constantly misfired with flatspots the car is still on the road now with a different owner, the last time I spoke to him he had the gas side permantly switched off because of the amount of trouble.

I was glad to get shut and have never looked back since buying diesels. Hopefully the system you are getting is more reliable than Vauxhall's. I couldn't recommend it to anyone.

The Vauxhall system I think was Prins and wasn't individually injected per cylinder off the top of my head. LPG as with all technologies has advanced massively in the last few years. Bit like comparing the new CDTi engines to the old Izuzu 1.7 DTi lumps. The technology is massively advanced. 3 years ago they just mixed it in the air intake, now each cylinder has it's own injector and it is mapped to the car. You can be hard accellerating and the car will switch between LPG and petrol and you won't feel it.

I am currently driving around in a Citroen C1 1.0 Litre and for all it's basicness it is on LPG and gets 100miles to £4! And it isn't half nippy. Tank is only small (£9 worth of LPG!) but gets over 200 miles to it.

I am having a large tank installed and a hidden LPG filler. Power loss in non-existant now, though I will report back!

It will have to be serviced once a year at £75 per service and a return after 1000 miles for a quick checkup.

I am looking forward to it
