Default Tooth Belt Change and sparkies!!

I read the service manual today, and how do I know when to change the toothed belt.

    It says 4 6 8 10 years. Which applies to my 3.2 V6 elite
Also how often do i need the sparkies changed?

How much will the stealer charge for this??

How much will a normal back street charge??

    Cheers everyone....

the cambelt (toothed belt)...is scheduled at 80,000 miles...but i'd never leave it that long..after the last time vx reccomended this interval they suffered a massive increase in failures..

So for my recommendation i'd say 4 years or 40,000 miles is a good interval..and change the water pump at the same time as it's only £20 to do and it's a doddle to do at the same time, but a nightmare later..

plugs are a bit of a swine to get down to in the engine, but 50,000 miles is a good age for them...

pass on how much a dealer will charge as i never use them, but the plugs cost £2.10 each and the cambelt kit will set you back around £100...

How hard its it to change the timing belt yourself?? I know the spark plugs are a b*tch so i will that to the garage.

Anyone know where I can get teh belt and pump done cheaply down south??

if you buy the sealey locking kit, then it's not too hard to do it yourself, providing you're used to working on quad cam cars....

'down south' depends on where you are inthe country, you'd need to be a little more precise before we could reccomend somewhere..
