    Default Cd70

Quick question what is the best bit rate for ripping music before burning onto a CDR? I have been messing around with the rates and have found the CD70 struggles with lower bit rates. Can't find anything in the manual.

    Cheers

I'd never go below 128kbps for mp3s, and it may not like VBR. Personally i use 256kbps.

At 128 it does appear to like songs with alot of "B's" in words. What does VBR mean?

Variable Bit-Rate. Program works out the "optimal" rate for each song. Don't think it's variable throughout the length of an actual track, but when you're encoding an album you will see different rates for the tracks.

Is VBR something I can turn off? Use WMP should I use Real Player?

I always use 128kpbs ripped onto CD's using Windows Media Player and have never had a problem playing them on my CDR2005 on my pre-facelift Vectra. Given the average but more than acceptable quality of the standard-fit CD player, there is little point in going above 128 IMO. Bear in mind that my manual and yours probably has a disclaimer saying that CDR's may not always play properly. Also never had a problem playing my 'homemades' on the decent 'separates' CD player I have at home, neither.

I will give Real Player a go without VBR, see if it's better, and yes I have a disclaimer as well.
