Thread: Help please. is it my engine?

    Default Help please. is it my engine?

    been out & about in the car (2.2 dti) & when I went to start there was this clanking noise like something grinded.
    So gets out has a look under the bonnet. seemed very hot but put it down to the weather with the sun on the bonnet.
    Trys again to start the car. this time she starts fine, 1min down the road the battery light comes on & the display comes up with a car & spanner picture, then starts over heating the temperture light comes on .

    Any ideas ??????????

    Make shure you have the right level of engine oil and coolant, and make shure not to drive if it`s exceding the normal temp....this will ruin you engine mate.

    I had a look at the coolant & its ok. will check my oil in a min.
    The temp went well in the red. think i will have to go to the dealers

    Fan belt has snapped for definate and possibly the fan belt pully has shattered. Have a look and see if you can see a V grooved belt on the LHS of the engine, if not, it's the belt.

    Same thing happened on my old car. cost £225 to repair, but have AA repair insurance, so cost £25.

    P.S. If it is the Belt or Pulley ------- DO NOT START OR DRIVE THE CAR

    Was just looking under the bonnet.
    you hit it right on the nail mate.
    The belt has come off & one of the wheels has come off !
    Gonna cost a bit now then.

    Always happy to help if i can, and give something back to vectra-c for all the help it has given me.

    Shame about the belt though, but it is quite common.

    hope you get it fixed soon......and hopefully not to expensively

    yep, have to agree.. the failure of the crankshaft pulley is VERY common on DTi's it appears.. you're the 2nd guy on here to have one fail in 2 days..

    If it was a peugeot HDi then you'd be changing it with every cambelt....

    the pulley normally delaminates and the outer section falls off....

    Hold The Press !!!


    I had something similar on my B, it might be the tensioner, that's what happened with mine the bolt worked out and the belt came off, before you go to the garage have a quick look between the cover and the chassis and see if all looks ok there 1st.
