Default Vectra vs Superb Early Days Report

    These are my 1st impressions

Style .... Dead heat imo, both different but both very appealing

    Performance .... Vectra, on a scale of 10 ... V = 9 S = 7

Handling .... Vectra again hands down

    Space .... Superb hands down

Comfort .... Bit of a draw here, Superb seat is nicer but doesn't tilt

Equipment .... Superb has some additions that Vx might want to look at

    CD that plays backups
    Illuminated door handles
    Triangle in boot
Cruise control that's really smooth to disengage

Economy .... I think the Vectra is going to edge this one in Diesel Auto spec

Refinement .... Superb wins this one, she's quieter at speed and has that upmarket German feel to it

Fun .... Vectra again, well at least a CDTi one

Durability .... This ones a tough call, the Vectra falls down on a few mechanicals, where I feel the Superb might go tired inside a bit faster than the Vectra.

All in all, I think it's about balanced between the two, both have things they excel at, and both have their own achillies.

BTW I drove an now old style Mondeo this week, hated it, always thought it would be a car I would like, it felt so cheap and gutless you wont find me in one.

I just wanted to post up my immediate thought's so I can compare back in a few weeks once I've settled into the car, like I've already said I haven't left the Vx stable permanently, I just fancied a change and on a financial basis this one made more sense to have the ability to change car early if I feel I want to when the new cars arrive in 09, one of our members linked me a good Skoda club site which I've checked out briefly and it seems to be like here with good info and ppl who help, but I did feel like the new kid in town having a read, not signed up yet, and I think I'll carry on with the chat side of things here anyway, can't have 15 mths of building up good friendships just go to waste cos of a different car.

You stick around VV ......dont need to have a Vec to still chat on here (as you know with other members)

BTW, agree with you on the Mondeo. Boring, unexciting car. Why they bull it up to be something its not I'll never know (I had a Y reg new shape 2.0 LX BTW). By all acounts it only the ST that interesting (sorry Keith if your reading this!). BUT, am interested to see what the new one is like and I'd give it the benefit of the doubt if its any good. It was on 5th Gear the other night and I must admit, I do like the shape of it. First time I'd seen it on the road in the "flesh", i.e. not a picture.

I'm right made up with the dealer as well, the sale wasn't pushed at all, polite but familiar *which I like btw* just had a look at a few things I missed on test, there's new pads all round, the discs look no older than 10k's worth, don't think the rear has ever been used, never smoked in, original spare full size wheel again never used, no rattles, wheels virtually unmarked couple of chips on one on the edge, could even be tyre fitter caused tbh, it makes you feel the car is a lot more expensive than it actually is just with little touches here and there, the more I look at it the only traces of what ppl think when you say Skoda are the badges.
