    Default National Champion

I have got some very proud news to share with you all. As a few of you know, my eldest daughter Tanya, is heavily into Shotokan Karate. On the 19th May we went down to the NIA in Birmingham to attend the Karate Union of Great Britain National Championships. The upshot is, that her and two of her team mates are now the National Champions for team kata (set form). What's more, she only turned 16 on the 3rd May which saw her move up into the womens categories and in the individual kata she got into the semi finals, which is a monumental achievement at her age. All the women she was up against were all in their early/mid twenties and 4 of them are seeded (needless to say, them 4 were in the final lol), but to say I am proud is a huge understatement. Here she is holding the trophy

You can see a clip of them on you tube, just put 'KUGB Nationals' in the search

    Hey... Very good indeed...

Kata is very precise and requires a lot of practice, timing and flexibility/balance.

I used to train with Kin Hitsuji-Ryu and belong to the British All-Styles Karate Association, many many years ago (nearly 25 years ago actually)..

The training is very hard going but its a big confidence builder, especially at national level.

I remember having to fight girls in some practice sessions and they used to have breast plates, groin plates, shin plates and they would still try and give you a good kicking given half the chance !!

Some of the worst offenders were the newby white belts, straight off the streets with attitude... totally uncontrolled and totally random... ****** nightmare

    Well done to your daughter.
