    Default Zafira GSI, any good?

Well my wife is pregnant with our third littlun, due in late September.

I am worried that all the seats etc are not going to fit in the Vectra, theres not alot of room left in the middle. Eldest is four and has a booster seat, youngest is 1 and in a Britax seat, The remaining space on the rear bench is very very tight.

I always said i would never buy an MPV but i think i may be forced to.

The Zafira GSi's at PVS were looking good and performing reasonably on the strip considering what they are.

My concerns are mainly insurance and MPG, as i'm running a tiny 1.8 in the Vec and am used to that sort of consumption.

So have you driven a Zafira GSi, or had one on loan, or even owned one? please help me i think i am going to have to get one and its not normal thinking!

    I'll only do this if
    • I have to have the extra space
    • I can afford to fuel it
    • i can get a good part ex deal

    Thanks for the advice

I would expect the mpg in a Zafira GSI to be around the mid twenties. Matt or Maverick (whatever he's calling himself ) ran one for quite some time and knows pretty much everything there is to know about them. Contact him dude.

Here's the web address - just type in Zafira to the search box.

The biggest mistake I did was sell my GSi!!!

I had two, one for a year (March 2002-2003) and another from March 2003 to July 2006.

My first one stayed standard all the time I had it, mainly due to the fact it was one of the first and know one did anything for it.

The second one had a Courtenay intercooler and pre-cat pipe fitted before it was delivered new!!!

It ran the best side of 240bhp from 3000 miles old, the final year I had it was 260/265bhp and 280lb/ft. It never gave me any problems reliability wise.

It was mega practical, stupidly fast, even by todays standards, we got the best side of 27mpg as an average. But it will drink like hell if you drive it hard all the time. But as this was the Mrs Car she drove it quite sensibly and got good mpg.

Handling is very good, but can be dramatically improved with ease, I simply fitted Bilstien dampers with standard springs, (Don't lower them as it destroys drivability) and then fitted 18" Vauxhall Alloys with 225 40 18" tyres, these are the same over all diameter as the original 225 45 17's. Ensure your wheels are no lower than ET45 offset and 7.5" wide 7" and 8" will upset the balance. Vauxhall only offer one alloy like this and it is the Astra Coupe wheel in the same design as the 11 spoke Vectra C wheel like Duncans.

But the new Corsa VXR 18" wheel is even better suited to the Zaf GSi, 7.5 x 18" ET47.

Would I buy another, absolutly. They are a case of you having your cake and eating it.

Depending on how far you want to go with modifying the world is your oyster, it was also permanently better on fuel than my borthers old Zafira 1.8 Design.

I drove one of these at Millbrook when vx launched the Vectra c.

It drove superb, we were knocking 130 on the speed bowl & still had plenty left.

Incidentally while we were on there an xj220 came past us in the top lane like we weren't moving, I mean he was hammering, it was like a jet screaming past.

On the country lane track the Zaf drove beautifully as well. It was by far the best drive of the day & we drove most of the vx range.

Not sure about economy though I would imagine it would be thirsty.
