    Default Re-taxing car help!

    Hi all,

I used to own a F**d E****t but i've given it to my younger brother but i'm still the registered keeper and now the car needs its tax renewing !!!

Although i'm going to the post office, i don't have insurance on it but he does! Does this mean i have to register the car to my younger brother now i.e change owner on log book? or am i still able to retax as normal by showing usual documents, insurance cetficate, MOT etc?

    Please advise me...

You will most likely not be able to tax it at a post office, as most post office staff insist that the certificate has the same name as the renewal document.

If you renew on the dvla web site, you would not have this problem, cos as long as the car is MOT'd and insured, they will issue you a disc.

The alternative is to change the logbook to your brothers name as the logbook is not prove of ownership.

If the insurance is for the car you should be ok cause when you insure it it doesn't have to be yours it's just they're more interested in it being owned by a HP company. Take everything in-have you had the form from dvla? If so try doing it online-that way you'll know for sure if the insurance is acceptable and it's delivered to your door without having to queue for granny at the PO counter!!!

iirc you just fill out a form at the post office a V something or other with bro's details on it and they send it out to swansea and tax the car there and then, hth
