Had the first service a week ago...Some queries as a result.

My baby finally got her first service nearly a fortnight ago. I've been on holiday hence the delay!

Post service the car seams alot more powerful... not sure why but I'm happy! However I have issues with two things.

1. Silly one but what the hey. I fitted Chrome Richbrook valve caps that cover the whole valve. They look ok and theres no black pipe sticking out of the alloy. However the dealer has told me they could get them off to check the tyre pressure. They were worried that the valve was gonna get ripped out. I got the car home and sure enough some of the caps are well stuck. I didn't tighten them on alot. Any ideas how to free them up?

2. Tony at 888 commented on my brakes being soft. I thought they were fine as they had always been that way. After I had a Vectra as a rental for a week, I agreed with Tony. I asked my dealer to have a look at them. They have tested them on a "rig" and decided they are fine. any comments on that please?

3. My trip computer thumb wheel on the steering wheel....When I try to use it to cycle through the consumptions etc or reset them, the radio changes channel or from CD to radio is Radio to CD. The dealer reckons I should be using it while driving...Can't work that one out.

As too the thumb wheel querie, mine has buttons so I might be talking a load of rubbish, but perhaps he meant you need to have the ignition on to do what you wanted ?

On the thumb wheel issue, mine did exactly the same thing. I used to use the dash buttons rather than the wheel & thought I'll ask when it goes in for its service. After a couple of months they started working OK. Never did find out what was wrong.
Sorry, not much help really, but at least you know you're not alone on that one.

for the valve caps, they are a pain in the ****, normally need cutting off as they lock on (read RUST on) and can't be removed, its a total pain in the ****, and the reason I dont use them anymore.

You could waste your time using WD40, but it didn't work for me

Thumb Wheel: On mine I press the thumb wheel in to activate the board Computer menu then roll up and down to move through the menu. But every now and again it switches me from the radio to the CD player. Pain in the bum and I usually just press the big BC button on the VX radio. This could be an even bigger pain if I upgrade the radio...

My 1.9 (120) has gone in for a service today and I was told that there was a new engine map from VX so they would do that as well. Maybe yours has been upgraded too and you've got a bit more power??

Also the fact that the car has been serviced and has nice new fluids and filters means it can perform better.
