    don't let your tyres down?!?

It's all down to the start, if you can't get traction off the line you won't get a good time. The first run I did, I took it realy slow to warm her up, reaction time was 1.4 seconds! I pulled off slowly in first as I would from any trafic light then floored it in second. I still got a 15.9 on that run with 89mph terminal.

My tyres are above recomended for the fuel economy so traction was an issue. I increased the diameter of my fronts to a 225/50 in order to reduce road wheel torque slightly but it still spins at 30mph sometimes.

Anyway, I was pleased, you were all please, everyone was pleased and next year maybe I'll get on the stand with my new Vecy (I'll start working on the misses now).

trust me mate ! You want your tyres pressures to be normal ! What is the point of having less pressure im the tyre ? As you know the pressure is there for even wear due to having all your rubber on the road , by having more pressure in the tyres you are running on the center of the tyre and by running with less air your running on the edges ! By having the correct pressure your running on ALL the rubber thus more grip thus a faster time , and as im on about tyres , with the correct pressure its more economical so the engine is working less because it can turn the wheel easier , by running on less pressure the engine will be thinking its running on sand because its got to work harder ! Just trust me dude :-)

I drive it normally with more pressure than recomended which produces less losses through movement and as such better economy and better rolling road results. (and I've never had uneven wear, even on the Toyo 888s that wore out in three months).

By reducing the pressure you get more tyre in contact because the sides bow down slightly. It won't help at top end but you won't get anywhere near that on a 1/4 mile run so it's not a big issue.

Take a look around the web at drag racing sites, they all do it.

Agree with Nut on reducing tyre pressures.... Big help on initial grip. I used to ages ago when I used to race!

tell you what mate ! You carry on letting your tyres down and get a slower time as a result ! , the reason dragsters run less pressure is not because there is more grip , they do it because of the extreme heat build up ! As you know or should know hot air expands so they reduce the pressure to stop the dam tyres exploding :-)

On a car that could generate enough heat in the tyre to expand the tyre , as you might have had doc .... thats cool but for a vec c on the strip with little over 200 bhp is pointless !!!

when a tyre spins up like on top fuel dragsters the tyre, expands and there will be less contact with the floor, like you say it may make a slight amount of differance to get initially going, but surely once going there will be more drag as a normal car can not get the same effect as with the dragsters.

I also believe lee that these proffesional drag racers purposly run with slightly less rubber on contact at the start to safe guard the transmission due to the 8000 ish bhp going through it !!!! ... how on earth nutron can compare his car to a top fuel dragater i'll never know !!!
