confused I'm picking up good vibrations......not

    Okay peeps

Thinking caps on. Just spent last 30 mins doing a 'vibration' search. Here's my problem. Any kind of a load on the engine causes a vibration through the cabin and steering wheel at any speed. Ruled out wheels as deperessing the clutch 'cures' the problem. It happens at any revs but particularly bad at around 3500 which must be resonant frequency of the car. Local dealer checked obvious, engine mountings, exhaust etc. Looking at engine and transmission but I'm thinking transmission as engine sounds fine at idle and when depressing clutch at speed. Local dealer has little experience of 2.2 engines so is a bit lost. Only similar problem i found on the search was Boris with a flywheel.

    2002 2.2 SRI

    Any thoughts out there.

    Cheers

Have you checked the brake calipers, one of them might be sticking and the pad is not moving off the disc far enough, if you drive the car for a while then stop and carefully feel the front wheels to see if there is any difference in tempreture, if one is very noticably hotter then you might have a caliper sticking. I had this happen on a car I had many years back.

    Hi Ed

I don't think it's anything related to the wheels and brakes. As I said the vibration stops when I disengage the engine from the wheels at speed. I imagine if it was a sticking caliper then the vibration would continue.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Is it a 2.2 petrol? If so could be some thing to do with the counter balance shafts or dual mass fly wheel

Didn't know the 2.2 petrol had a dual mass fly, thought that was just for the diesel's.

Not heard of any probs with them but they are there to make the engine smoother, it's something GM picked up from Saab when they bought them in the early 90's. They are chain driven off the crank pully and look like two small cam shafts located in the main block. Look up file No. 00301314 in the link below. It's not a Vectra but its the same engine.
