Default Vectra C Towbar (tow Bar)

    Hi all,

Can any provide me with a how2 to remove my towbar. The car came with an after market one fitted. If i unbolt it and snip where the wires have been spliced in will i get problems?

Also how long will it take to do?

The how to to remove a towbar is surely self explanatory??

trace the wiring and disconnect it (however it has been connected), then pull it carefully through to the outside, then unbolt the towbar and remove. You may want to grease and cover any drilled holes with grommets etc to prevent water ingress or corrosion.

How does one unbolt the towbar? where are the bolts? how many bolts etc

how many holes are drilled for a towbar? is it just one for the loom? or are holes drilled for the bolts for the towbar

Without sounding too harsh go and have a look, it will only take a few moments and will save you and others time. They are very easy to fit, so removing should be easy too. You don't even need to jack anything up to view.

Don't know about the wires you could just tie the socket up behind the bumper but there are 8 I think 10mm bolts and you will need to drop the exhaust to help get at one side the boot floor is drilled with spacers dropped in the holes from above, you will see the the bolts if you lift the carpet in the boot. As VV say's have a look it will take about 30 mins tops for the bar then plus the electrics if you don't tie them up.

    Why remove the towbar?
If its just for looks then remove the short bar which attaches the tow ball to the main bar. This is attached by two bolts. Is the electrics have been fitted correctly the go through a large gromit behind the bumper. If this is a vauxhall kit just unplug the wiring loom from the socket at the electrical panel located behind the left boot trim. Remember to remove the earth wire if you are you are just going to disconnect it. If a relay bypass kit has been fitted disconnect it where it attaches to the original wiring loom.
One thing that would be good to know is if the kit was an original vauxhall one chances are that the car was Tech 2 to program the towbar electrics. Will this show up any faults when it is removed?
Can you let us know when you have removed it.

This wasnt a Vauxhall tow ball. I thought about just removing the tow ball but I would still have a big plate stick out. The electrics have been spliced into the lights and into a relay.

To make sure i didnt get any faults I just removed the wires from the towbar electrics. Then taped them up.

All good now.. No towbar. :-)

If you remove the two inside trim panels in the boot, and the carpet itself, you will see the plates either side, there are two bolts each side and should be captive to the plates.

Remove the rear bumper, and the bumper crash beam, the crash beam is held in place by 4 13mm nuts.

Once the bumper and beam is off, go under the car and remove the four nuts from the towbar and pull the whole thing off, then re-build the bumper and beam etc.

Disconnect the electrics a source and you should be fine.

You don't need to remove the bumper to fit / remove a towbar. Well I didn't have to anyway when I fitted mine.
