    Default My first Veccy....ever

Hi there, I have recently bought an 04 Vectra 2.2 SRi, no direct version.

I used to have a Saxo VTR but wanted a more grown up car, if you know what I mean. Its completely standard but still looks the sexy one.

I used to think Vectra's were poo, and believing Clarkson to be the all knowing, never even considered one when I set out to get a new car. I test drove a 307 XSi, Megane 2.0 turbo, Seat Leon, A3 Tdi, Y reg 318, Citroen C2 VTR and C3 XTR and a Laguna (dont ask why) and hand on heart the Vectra was by far the best. It felt quality, better drive feel, better handling or certainly no worse, it just felt right, which I thought was bizzare. Even down to seat position, the 307 half buckets were halfway into my back with the offset footwell, in the Megane I couldn't see the top of the dials, the steering wheel was in the way. I tried to fight it but after taking the Vectra out for the 4th time I had to buy.

The only slight dissapointment, which i researched before buying was the performance. Even thought 2.2 sounds big, its a big heavy car. Plenty of torque is what you need to get moving from low down revs. Dont get me wrong, you screw it and it shifts (had a few runs with some cars up the dual carraigeway, we allowed to talk about this?) but only above 4K revs.

I'm so happy with it I could pee myself. Dont you feel like the daddy driving one of these? Well I do anyway.

So how does the 2.2 compare with the rest of the range?

Hey guys. Nice car you got there John, nice wheels and spoiler going on. Makes a difference to appearence having an extra inch on the rims.

The 2.2 isn't slow, its just not as fast as I thought a 2.2 16v would be before I drove it. I was used a a little nippy car that felt faster than it was and had plenty of poke low down.

I have 2 bridges over a dual carraigeway where I live about 1/4 of a mile apart, all uphill. All the cars i've driven, that i've been able to, i've floored it to see what speed I can get at each bridge. (dont worry its well quiet) in the Saxo I could get 80mph by first bridge and 90 on the second. My vectra can get to 90 on the first and 100 on the second, even though it "feels" like i'm going slower. Its strange. I took most of the cars I test drove locally up there as well.

But what a difference in every other aspect. The Vectra is such a nice car to drive, it feels better than even the BMW i drove. gimme a Veccy-C anyday.

    What MOD's we talking about?

I wanted the 2.0 turbo but couldnt find one locally. Is it a beast?

Looking at some of your cars tho I need to ditch the standard wheels. However I just bought 2 new tyres, 160 bux for fitting balancing etc!!!. so no new wheels quite yet.

I just read on here you can get 225's instead of 215's a bit cheaper as there is more range, they still fit the wheel?

It feels slower because it is bigger and more refined so you dont get the same sense of speed, I noticed it when i first got mine.
