    Default Noisy tyres

I have just rung up Vauxhall customer services to complain about the excessive tyre noise from my new vectra which has bridgestone er30's fitted as standard.I explained that the road noise was excessive and should be alot quieter but as usual he said that they could do nothing about it.I asked if my complaint could be officially logged, so if any one else feels like complaining then be my guest. At least Vauxhall might get it into their heads to fit decent tyres and not cheap noisy ones

Mine is very quiet, even at motorway speeds.

I wouldn't say Bridgestone are cheapo tyres either.

Bridgestones are excellent tyres, maybe it's the road surfaces on the ones you use making them do it.

No point complaining to them they don't give a damn once they have your money. I have complained about having to change wheel bearings at 40,000. Reply, not our problem after waiting 3 months for a reply.

    They are absolutely s***.

It's a tought one isn't it but the warranty period is exactly that. What is a business supposed to do? You sell something with a warranty for a certain amount of time, you either draw the line at the date and mileage you state or you cost yourself shed loads of money.

My parents have a VW Golf, 3yrs old an 12,000 miles, 1 month after the warranty ran out they had to have both rear shocks replaced, and you guessed it VW wouldn't pay anything towards it.

I still think it's worth complaining over some things - about 8 years ago we broke down in my wife's escort gti on the M25 and needed a tow to nearest Ford dealer. Alternator had failed completely and was replaced. I think the tow was £95 and alternator replacement about £200 (alternator was burried under air-con compressor, so not easily accessible).

As the car was only 13 months old and just out of warranty we wrote to Ford with the argument that the alternator should be a "lifetime/60k+ mile" part and shouldn't have failed at 10k miles - and that if they do fail prematurely and are "replaceable", then why the heck was it so well burried that it needed 3 hrs labour to replace!

To our surprise, Ford refunded 90% of all costs - including the motorway tow - and we wrote back to Ford Customer Service to thank them for their response!

I deal with escalated complaints at work - and as long as you have a reasonable case, communicate it clearly and are reasonable in your request you do have a really good chance of getting something towards a loss as a 'goodwill gesture'.

The complaints that tend to get rejected earlier in the process are generally the outlandish ones where people demand "compensation", eg lost time at work, stress, having to go on holiday to get over it, shopping sprees etc etc, when their 'real' loss is only a few quid, which is normally just refunded under the terms of the no quibble guarantee.

Basically, if you think you have a reasonable case - give it a go, and always write to the MD or another Director, marked for their personal attention, as they always take an interest in getting these resolved quickly and with the minimum fuss!

my vectra did it too, had to take the tyres off at only 6,000 miles. I worked for Pirelli at the time and put them on the test machine, they were the highest reading of radial harmonics i'd ever seen!
Sent them back to bridgestone with the printout and all they said was "they are within acceptable limits"
Its caused by the tread block wearing unevenly causing a wheel bearing type noise particullary on smooth roads at certain speeds. if they are not directional then swap em left to right, they will eventually wear the other way....

PS they were potenza's 225/45/18's utter rubbish......

    Default Same here

I have just removed four 225/45/18 potenza tyres with a good few thousand miles left in them because i couldnt stand the noise any more. I replaced them with four conti sport 2's and it's like a different car, whisper quiet as it should be at 15,000 miles.
