    Default Oil?

How often do you check/top up your oil. I noticed the oil light flash a couple of times a few weeks ago checked the oil it was on minimum so filled it up to just below max. Noticed the light flash again today so checked and it was on minimum again. I have my own car park space at work and i always leave it in the garage at night and not noticed any oil spills so is it normal to use that much oil in about 3 weeks?

I have a 2.2 auto petrol and used magnatec oil

It should only use that much oil if your driving it hard in high revs.

Once, maybe even twice a week.

Instilled on me from my Lorry driving days. A bit anal perhaps, but I've never had to top it up, plus I never worry about running it low.

As it takes about two minutes to do, there's no real excuse to wait for the light, in my opinion - What if the bulb doesn't work or the sensor didn't do its job!!!

Does seem to be a touch heavy on useage though. If it's unusual, I'd start looking for the cause, i.e perhaps a seal or gasket somewhere. Might be worth a visit to a proper garage to put your mind at rest.

I check my oil at most every 2 months. I know i should check it more frequently, but don't remember to do it. It doesn't move at all, and I do a fair amount of miles, so I don't worry about it.

Your oil consumption seems excessive, I would investigate further.

    I agree.
I too don't check as often as I should, just can't be ar55ed. that's what the warning light is for.

Mine did use a little when I first had it, but not burnt anything since. I think the garage forgot to top it up after running it following an oil change.

I've found that my cars use about 1 litre every 10K miles, typically maximum to minimum on the dip stick
This was great in the cars that have such a service interval, meaning I rarely had to fill them up!
However, in the 3.0 V6 CDTI I have had to add oil twice, as above

Suppose to check the oil daily when the engine is cold and on the level, but I check the oil once a week, due to the high mileage

I do 35k P/A, checked the oil once or twice and it's never used a drop so now the only time I lift the bonnet is to add washer fluid to the resevoir.
    It's a 2.2Dti as well (a **** one at that)
