It means it's the second half of the years model range. As such, there may have been slight spec changes, engine availability, trim upgrades etc.

It's also a bit misleading, as the 2005 model year would have been available from about october '04!

Means it was manufactured in the fifth month of 2005. MY = Manufacture Year

No, it means exactly what it says. 2005.5 means it was manufactured May 2005.

Oh! it's just that every other manufacturer seems to do it the way I explained! For instance, the other day, I had an audi brochure with 2007.5 model years!

I'll bow to your superior knowlege!

I'm not buying an audi btw!! I was looking at one for my dad!

Sorry Andrew, I'm talking at slight cross-purposes with you. Yes, a MY 2005.05 will have been made a bit before that actual date, but to the spec that they will be listing in any MY2005.05 literature - probably a few months before as you said.

    I'm pretty sure "2005,5MY" means modelyear 2005 and a half !
A modelyear starts after summer holidays and the first half (at GM/Opel) goes until December or January; that moment the second half starts, usually with slight changes, new pricelist and/or optionslist.
So a MY 2005,5 is modelyear 2005 build between winter and summer-closing of the factory.
Only the dealer can see what month a car was build based on the last 5 digits of the VIN.
But if the 10th digit of your VIN matches the digit on your windows (the one after the dots), you'll know your car is a MY ,5 (unless your windows have been changed )
