    Default oil filter

i'm going too change the oil on my cdti 150 and noticed the and filter cover has a toothed edge - why and will it cause trouble unsrewing the filter?
also there is a small pipe underneath the filter cover with a yellow rubber cap - will oil pour out as i unscrew the filter or is to let air in to extract the filter?

sorry if i seem dim but never encountered anything like this before.

the filter covers edge is to help to get extra 'purchase' on it if you are using a strap wrench..but i use a socket on the end....

and the small pipe is just designed to drop oil on your exhaust pipe....

The edge is like that because they used to have a little spring clip attached to side of filter housing which rested in the grooves on the cover, which acted like a lock to stop it from undoing. i am not sure exactly when they stopped fitting the spring but they normally fell off anyway the first time you removed the filter

there is a tool available to stop the oil dripping on the exhaust, its a metal shield that clips on......... i personally tie a rag around the exhaust
