Wheel vibration - need good balancing

I've just had all my tyres on my SRI changed to Pirelli P6000 225/45R17s. Otherwise pleased with them, but....

KwikFit can't get the ****** balancing right. They've have two attempts now and the steering still vibrates at 60mph+!

I know the Vec is very sensitive to poor balancing, so can anybody recommend someone who can do the job properly in the West Midlands area?

Don't know about places in your area, but as for balancing and stuff I'm still in the midst of sorting mine out, they are better being balanced on the car, that should help a bit

I saw your other post Agoogy, what have you got left to try on yours? It seems like there's nothing much you haven't tried yet!

My Vec is in at Vauxhall today for some warranty work, so whilst it's there I've asked them to have a go balancing it with their machine. Who knows, maybe their experience with Vectras will help!

I've been thinking about this, and looking into, as several people have reported this

Are the weights standard clip-on or press-fix?

I have press-fix ones on my alloys, as you should, and I've never had any problems on the 7 tyre changes so far
The tyre fitters I use were going to fit the standard ones, but I reminded them that on alloys press-fix weights should be used
Yes, the standard ones are cheaper, but rules is rules

Yep mine has the now standard press-on sticky zinc jobs.

After my last visit to Christchurch Tyres (they didn't charge...) it was decided by looking at the rear tyres (Dunlop SP9000s) that were running on the legal markers that by having the car lowerd on springs alone, that THAT alignment was also an issue...(the fronts are still good...)so 11am tomorrow, its back in for a full on laser alignment and then perhaps some balancing on the car.

The only remaining issue(s) was that due to traction control they can't spin the fronts up over 10mph so can't test the balance at normal cruising speeds... and that even given success the wheels will have to be put back on EXACTLY as they were taken off to keep it sweet...

I let you know how I get on

How many post's do i see about the vec's having sensitive suspension setup's so that when you change your tyres no one can balance them properly after. There must be more to it

If they "drive through" the TC cutting in it will be ok. At Rolling Road days, cars that cannot turn the TC off can still run doing this. Mine was fine once the TC had cut in and it was then given the beans.

i had a new tire fitted about 2 weeks ago and asked them to balance both front wheels and the juddering was still there, went to vx yesterday to get it done there and result! it is nice and smooth again, it cost a little more to do there but at list they did it right

yep, it's hard to find a GOOD balancing machine, but if they do the job on 'fine' settings, then it should be okay..

i only use ONE tyre fitting place, not local, but very good

I asked the fitter who did mine to do them on fine settings as per the advice from Mark. TBH I had my fingers crossed that he didn't ask me what I was on about

Later found this definition on a TVR site.

"Fine settings indicate the weight to the nearest gram. The normal weight test goes to the nearest 5 grams, so if 3 grams is needed the machine will indicate 5 grams."
