Default Instruments temporarily out of action

I set off for work yesterday and speedo, tacho, temp and fuel gauges not working for the whole journey of 13 miles (but digi odo and trip working ok).

    Thinking maybe a fuse.

Get to work, turn off, turn ignition on again and they are then working and have done since.

Phoned Vx dealer, who says never heard of this on Vec 'C' but common on Corsa, press on instrument glass to re-seat multi-pin connector and to try this on mine if it happens again. If doesn't work, to bring car in and they will put on computer and check for faults.

Anyone else had this problem and if so what is the cause and remedy (if known) please?

I hate intermittent faults that cannot be explained.

    Thanks for any advice.

'Never heard of this on a Vec C' - it's a common fault matey.

It'll be a canbus unit that's not registered correctly. Usually a 'reboot' fixes it for good.

Cheers for the info AJA, how do you re-boot it?

Is it a case of battery disconnect for a few minutes or a trip to the dealers.

As a matter of interest, what causes it in the first place?

By 'reboot' I mean restarting the ignition.

I've no idea what causes it matey. We've had reports that different canbus units fail to start correctly on different occasions.

If it's doing it persistantly it's a trip to the dealers I'm afraid.

No it has only done it the once so far.

What would they have to do if it was a persistant fault?

I've got Network Q cover til Sept 2008 so hopefully covered if work required.

I'm guessing they'd have to change the module if the fault is registered in the ECU and Tech2 can read it.

Ok cheers, I'll get them to check when I'm next in there.

As an aside, approx. how many members of this club have had this exact problem, would you say?

Strange that my dealer hasn't heard of it, they're usually pretty good.

Have a look at that thread - it's got some other info in that may help.

Thanks Duncan, lots to go on there.

Gonna have to go into the dealers and report it properly I think and get it checked out.

Good to be well informed before going though.

    Cheers

I know three people have had this problem with new "C"s at work.
