Default (Co car) Focus LX or (Car allowance) Vec 1.9cdti

    Hi folks

I can take a company car, Focus LX estate, 1.6td 90bhp

Or i can break even on a nearly new Vec SRI 1.9cdti 150 with a car allowance. This includes all my costs, service, tax etc.

Or i could take a different car

    Any thoughts? Anyone using allowance?

I had to borrow a company focus lx last weekend.

Was absolute ****. Only thing going for it is trouble free company motoring. If it breaks the company supply another car and repair it.

On car allowance i need to be on road, if it breaks and i cant get another car, then i end up in trouble/no pay.

Now i should have that covered by courtesy car, or wifes car if it ever came to it, and i really like the vec.

Been driving co cars since i was 18, now 28!

you need to go with wot you feel is the right choice yourself if you want cheep risk free motoring then the focus is the one but imo the veccy would have to win hands down

Financially it depends on what sort of miles you do, how much you get for fuel allowance on the car allowance scheme etc.

I had no choice, the co I work for dropped the co cars for all but a couple of classes. Vx was the preferred supplier and the last one I had was a SRi 150 2.2 Petrol 'B'.

When this changed I looked at various choices but ended up buying a 15 month old 3.2 Auto C - always wanted one since they were launched - I about break even on fuel as we don't get that much, but can claim back at the end of the tax year as we get less in petrol per mile than the IR allow.

yep I taken the allowance for the last 5 years, the way company car tax is Im saving a fair packet

don't forget u can also claim back the tax on your fuel claims if your comany pay u less than 40p for the 1st 10k

Mines paid at 40p per mile thats the reason for the V6 CDTI get an extra 12p per mile
