    Default Warning Light

    Hi
was just oput for a drive and the indicator light in the tacho display came on.

The symbol is like a ships wheel with an exclamation mark through it. This, according to the handbook, indicates a blown bulb. I have checked all of the bulbs and none are faulty. Also, I did not think this function was available on my car, an 04 2.2DTi LS.

The car seems to handle no differently to before the light coming on.

Has anybody any thoughts on the above. I would welcome any advice.

    Thanks

Be warned that when a bulb goes in the vectra then the the other filament in the bulb(ie tail and brake light bulb) will mimmick the other. So if the tail light bulb goes then the brake light will light up to mimmick a tail light. In other words as you go round the car it looks like all the bulbs are working. Its best to take out the rear tail/brakelight bulbs and physically check the elements.

That sounds more like the Power Steering fault
This is a circle with two bars connecting to the exclamation mark
I've had this once, switched the engine off and restarted
I suspect this was caused by stalling the engine and using the cars momentum to restart the engine!

I've had the bulb failure fault light before and it looks like a bulb with a an exclamation in it
Since my SRi is fitted with a Driver Info Display I also got a warning for the Front Fog Light, so diagnosis was quite easy

Does this warning still show, or was it a one-off?
If it is defintely a bulb, then check as follows, and walk round the car to make sure they are all as expected :
    hazard warning on, off
    Sidelights
Main headlights, with full beam and fog lights -> that gives you all the remaining lights on
Switch all to off, then check brake lights
    Finally, check reverse

    Thanks for your reply VideoDoctor

As you said all of the bulbs looked okay but when I took them out to look at them one was blown.

I have replaced the blown bulb and now everything is fine.

    Thanks again.

I had the same happen to me last week.

The rear light was acting as the brake light. The warning was intermitent though, sometimes it would stay on for 5 mins then it would go off. When i took the bulb out, it had blown, but the filiment could move in the bulb, so ever so often it would re-make the connection and function correctly.
Still changed the bulb (cost me all of 84p) and it is now functioning correctly again.
