tech 2?

had a nose about on ebay and they seem to have tech 2 units for around 80 quid
are these the 'real' ones and do they do the job?
what does a tech 2 unit look like and what software would i need for an '06 plate 1.8 design

I think this is the correct one pictured below.

You need the one that can interface with CANbus.

You may also need TIS2000 software, not sure though

At £80 it most definitely won't be the Tech 2 unit you've seen at dealers (like in the pic above) as they are £2k+!!!

It'll probably be, at most, a fault code reader and maybe other simple diagnostics, but it won't be able to change/reset anything on the car.

there is a programe availiable called ''auto enginuity'' by a company called ''gen dan'' that reads all full and half can-bus systems on vx's from 2000 onwards, my dad ( 'tech 2' on here)has it and i think it cost him somewhere in the region of £100.00, they are free to update and do all sorts of other things apart from fault code reading......

hope this is of some use to you all as i said i was going to find out about this for someone else a few weeks ago
