    Default Dvla

Just received a letter threatening me with court, for not paying an £80 fine!!

I sold this car last November - and even got a refund on the remaining tax.

You cannot speak to anyone over the phone, and are liable for the fine apparently.

I have been told to able in writing and they will investigate what a load of s$%t

Did you photocopy the log book when you sold it?

The previous owner has responsibility to inform DVLA when they are no longer the keeper of the vehicle. Whenever you deal with DVLA (Tax aplications or change of ownership on V5 etc) always send it Recorded.

If DVLA are not informed (or don't receive your letter) you become liable for subsequent fines!

When I sold the veccy-B last year, about 4 weeks after sending in the change of keeper part of V5 to dvla, I got a letter confirming I was no longer liable and their records had been updated. Still got letter just in case!...

IIRC, when selling, as the previous registered keeper you have the responsibility to send in the change form. Don't hand it over the the buyer if they say they will sort/send it.

    hope it gets sorted.

EDIT - if DVLA still have you listed as the registered keeper, should you not have received the original letter about the fine in the first place ??? surprises me if all you've seen is the court action letter? or have I missed something ???

Same happened to me, even though I had claimed for existing tax to be refunded.

I said I had sent of the appropriate form, proof of delivery is not possible with 1st class postage and I assumed it had reached them. Told them who and when I had sold it (VX dealer actually) and said I was not paying the fine, END of.

Did it in writing and they were fine (no pun) about it.

    Firm but fair.
