    Default Dashlight Bulbs

    Hi guys

    I knows its an astra...

One of my bulbs has gone behind my right hand side of the display counters (speedo and fuel guage side). My local dealer wants £95 to replace the bulb.... is this a bit much? Two hours labour? Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    R-man.

I haven't done any yet, but if normal, it will involve undoing the steering cover and the vent's and you should then be able to pull the cluster out enough to twist the bulb out and replace.

I have done it on a 99 astra G hatchback which should have the same dash as yours.

    1. First you have to undo the steering cover. There are two torque screws behind the steering wheel behind blanking covers. You have to turn the wheel 90 degrees one way to get to 1 screw and 90 degrees the other to get to the other. There is also a torque screw underneath which you have to undo.

    2. You then have to remove the indicator and wiper stalks by pushing the three clips which keep them in place and pulling them straight outt

    3. Then you remove the black plastic surround that surrounds the display by undoing the screws at the top and pulling it out

4.To remove the main unit, undo the torque screws at the bottom of the display unit , and slide the white plastic lever at the top of the unit (this clamps the display into the socket). You can then pull the display out gently so as not to bend the pins (it may take a bit of manouvering)

NOTE: Do not turn on the ignition while the dashboard is disconnected as this is likely to trigger the airbag warning light

    5. The bulb then twists out from the back of the unit. (you may have to remove the black plastic cover that covers the back of the cluster, but it is only clipped on)

    6. Then you can replace the unit by following the steps in reverse, it may take a bit of playing to get the dash unit aligned properly with the socket that it clips into, but take your time. When i did it i didn't have it locked into the socket properly so the speedo or any of the dials wouldn't work and i had to take it all to peices again.

Job should take about 20mins to 30mins (it would now anyway, took me 2 hours as i had to figure out how to get everything apart and back together again + i made a bit of a c**k up lol)

    Hope this helps

I did it on my wifes vectra, It took about and hour and a half to get the bits off and back on, but only about ten seconds to change the bulb, I would recomend you get the bulb first, it might not be a bad idea to change them all as the car is in bits, might save doing it again later if another one goes.
