Road Tax on a 28 tonne Euro IV lorry.

Last night I was allowed out in a new lorry! It was a 28 t artic with a new Euro IV engine. It has 4 axles and even though it runs light it does no more than 11mpg. Can you imagine my horror when I checked the Road Tax and saw how much it was????!

sorry, but car tax is supposed to pay for what, roads ???

so a family hatchback that weights 1500kg or so and does maybe 12000 average, has to pay the same road tax as a 28 tonne truck that maybe does 4 times that or more..

how do they figure that out ??

Suppose the reasoning is that haulage companies and logistics industries have to be given lighter bills in the name of the economy? Same with fuel tax, when it comes to complaining and demos, its not mr motorist they listen to, its the truckers and the transport indistries, the only ones with enough clout to cause trouble. The rest of us haven't a chance.
