Default PVS 2007 Guidance and Info

Andy, the events manager last year typed out a fantastic Guidance and Info thread last year for PVS, so I've adapted it for this year -

Only three weeks away is one of the highlights of every Vauxhall clubs calendar. PVS. For those that have never been before you're in for a treat, theres just so much to take in, it should be a 2 day event in my opinion.

The tickets have been placed in the post today, so when you receive them please add 'received' after you name on THIS thread. Car passes will also be enclosed with your tickets, or car passes on their own if you missed our deadline and are sorting your own ticket out.

    Times and Arrival

Gates open at 7am for club displays, 9am for general public. By then, there will be a queue to get in so be patient. Last year I joined the queue at 6.15am and was about 50 metres from the front. Make sure your car pass is displayed clearly as the gate marshals walk up and down the queue and usher display cars in ahead of general public. When you get to the pay booth, hand over your advance ticket or pay for an entry ticket if need one. Drive slowly down the entry road as a) you’ll get kicked out if you start practicing your drag racing starts, and b) theres usually a photographer photographing every car as they come in (you can buy prints later in the day)

Again, keep your car pass clearly displayed and look out for the various signs/marshalls directing you. It’s a little overwhelming if you’ve never been before but don’t panic, you’ll soon be on the stand with the rest of the Vectra C / Signum gang. When you arrive at our stand, there should be two Parking Marshall smiling politely. Once you’ve exchanged pleastantries they will direct you to a space. These guys will probably be highly stressed and on the verge of crying so please be nice to them. They will attempt to usher you into a parking spot. Most likely there will already be cars parked up in a theme so it may be obvious what they are trying to achieve. They may ask you to shuffle around a few times until your car is correctly spaced.

    Your cars

If you’ve never been before, you’ll be wondering what you do with your car. Basically it’s a static display with the option of taking your car up the strip, much like a regional meet you may have been to, but on a much much larger scale. Most people like to give their cars a nice polish etc on the morning of the show. In fact, this is very much a part of ‘showing’ your car for a lot of members. At the very least, we would ask that your cars are clean.

    Events for the day

For those that have never been before, PVS is packed with stuff to do. From the thousands of club cars to the drag strip action all day (which everyone can take part in). Theres loads of Vauxhall only trade stands to spend your cash with too. Last year total Vauxhall held a ‘best of PVS’ competition, where each clubs champion went on to compete against every other club. The winner walked away with something like a £500 irmscher voucher. So, we'll probably be having a competition to decide our winner to go forward.

    BBQ.

Last year Big Phil (with a few helpers) cooked a fantastic BBQ for every member who wanted some food. I've not asked him to do this again as I don't want him thinking it's expected of him. I'm half expecting him to start a thread soon stating 'Who's up for a BBQ at PVS 2007', so keep a look out. There is plenty of fast food vans jotted around the display areas but please bear in mind that these are not cheap. Expect to pay circa £3.00 for a hot dog. I always bring plenty of snacks with me and lots of fluids as it's usually roasting hot. Which reminds me, bring some suncream! I've never come away from PVS without a little sun burn.

    Quarter mile strip

If you're planning on taking your car down the famous strip don't forget to bring your driving license and picture card (if owned), as without it you won't be able to run. I believe that if your car reaches 100mph in a quarter mile you'll need a helmet as well, but don't quote me on that. Most if not all our cars won't qualify for a helmet though, but I bet some members will be close.

That covers the basics but if there is any more info you need, feel free to ask it in this thread or send me a pm, and I’ll do my best to answer. Im sure everyone will enjoy themselves and go home knowing a few more mates than they came with.

    Best Regards
    Alex

Have they said if there is an added 'feature' in the middle this time?

    Right gotcha.

According the diagrams we've received, the area directly adjacent to the embankment is clear. The organisers obviously have plans for it but they haven't included them on the diagrams to us or any other club.

I'm really glad we didn't agree to go on the pits side as it looks really cramped.

I've asked JCB to draw up a couple of layouts for us too. He's working on them now.

    Hi Guys,

Speaking with Ian at Futurenet it appears they have expanded PVS massively this year and now using the Pits side as Alex says. There is a new grandstand built too. The area Alex is referring too, where vec c was last year is now all tarmac and has been reserved for the park & Pose. The trade stand are also over ‘your side’.

Im over the pits side with the Astra Club and it is quite cramped, or busy, depending on how you look at it. I know Mig are over the pits side too. Will have to see how it goes, although im not convinced splitting the show into two halves is the best thing.
