Oil light after 2500 miles???

I have a 07 reg Vectra 1.9cdti (150). The oil light has just come after only 2600 miles. I'm new to Vectras and Diesels, do they use a lot of oil? Is it normal to need oil already??

I haven't checked the dipstick yet as I have only just parked up so I guess it needs to settle.

iirc the oil light comes on when you have used circa 2 litres (ish), in which case Vauxhall suggest 1ltr per 1000 miles is acceptable. It does seem to calm down a touch though after a while.

Checked the dipstick last night, and it was on the minimum. I'm very suprised it's so low already. Is it possible that it didn't have the correct amount of oil when delivered?

I expect it's used a bit during it's bedding in process.

And before anyone starts, I don't care what you say about modern engines and tolerances and all that, they still need go through the process!

Replenish the level, then keep an eye on it weekly, like you should be anyway, I would expect the useage to stop or at least settle by 10000 miles or so, any more and it's using too much.

Rusty, I bought my Vectra (150 CDTi SRI) at 10000 miles and have went 8k miles before doing an oil change, the oil level had not moved in 8k miles though. I did not have the car for the first 10k miles so cannot comment on its consumption up to that point. Mostly motorway miles I do. Good luck

Went into local Vauxhall dealer to get some oil. They said it was not usual for the engine to get through a lot of oil, but not unheard of, and usually settles down after a while.

Mine was exactly the same when I bought it new in 2006. I've put more oil in this one than my last 5 cars put together. It has settled down now at 20,000 miles
