Bit of useful/useless info for cold non starting 1.9 owners

For more than a year now, I have had what I thought was an overnight air leak, which would sometimes mean I had to prime the car for a cycle, before it would fire up on the first one of the day, was nearly always fine after that.
I have had issues with leak off pipes/connectors etc which, when sorted,want it got better, so assumed thst was main issue.
Till this weekend, when the car really wouldn't play ball.
Cleamed map yesterday after it refused to fire, gave battery a charge, after killing it a bit and bingo.
Got aa out, as wasn't sure what issue was, but after dojng diags, he said an open or faulty egr can be a cause, due to suckling in dirty air on start up.
I clean it now and then, but so far he was right, it was very slightly open with crap stuck at the valve, so after cleaning it up and replacing a bit of leak off pipe, which had just started going,, again,, he did an egr operating check, then refitted it. Car fired fine once he got some power to crank it, gave my battery 5min charge up, said starter and battery are good, so the vecs still not given up.
I never gave it any thought, till now, so am hoping it's helped ease the issue a bit long term, as it needs a service and looking at buying and getting help to fit a decent f40 box with required clutch /dmf and d/shafts, to keep my 8v 120 going for a few more years yet, as once running it's too good to get shot of after 14 yrs of ****** reliable running Tbf 👍👍

I had the same issue on the astra but what i did was playing with the key. Key off, ignition lights, key off, ignition lights a few times to prime the system; you can hear when the tank pump is priming and when it stops. My issue got fixed after it had the air intake cleaned out but it might also be some gunk in the fuel system

Well it was OK for 2 days, but it's just done it again today and I am going away for a week on Saturday,, might buy some cleaner,, then pray..
