    Default Handbrake adjustment position

Untitled.jpg What position does the little black plastic adjustment part need to be in, under normal operation? Most photos i see the part in fully forward, but some youtube videos suggest to have it fully back. What does it actually do?

it removes the slack on the handbrake cable... now the thing is auto adjusting so when you need to work on the handbrakes when you loosen it it should jump forward... to get the tension back you move it back this should tension the spring. and limit the travel of the handbrake lever... aka when tensioned up it should be a feww mm of the back. (this is with the lever down) took me a while to figure it out too so nothing wrong with you asking. when i adjusted mine it would be 3 clicks and it would hold the car leaving enough room to pull it up to 5 clicks to make it hard to put down. I preferred it that way.. others have a bit more play on it but if it travels past 6 clicks most MOT testers will say there is to much travel on the lever.

Thanks, my rear brake pads are well wore too. If i fit new pads will this help lessen travel on handbrake lever too? The hand brake lever goes up about 7 clicks at the minute, a bit too much.

Did you ever try adjusting at the handbrake?

At the lever or at the brake caliper? On the caliper is self adjusting.Try this, maybe it works but be careful on how much you tighten it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMzpQUs1WOM

Thanks, I seen this youtube video but not sure if i understand what the guy is actually doing there. I cant seem to translate the language. But it looks like he pulls handbrake lever up, holds the cable with pliers, then drop the lever a nick while holding the cable?

He pulls the handbrake, climps the mushroom on the right side with pliers, let's it down slowly multiple times untill it reaches fewer click(from 12 to 7) then he proceeds to tighten the whole thingie with the rear 2 screws(allen key and don't over tighthen them as it will jam the wheel). What i also recommend is after you have done jack the rear, pull the lever a few times, then release it and see if the wheel is spinning freely
good luck if that doesn't work you will need rear calipers
