Insignia 2015 facelift - engine died but still turns over....
Hi guys/gals,
I have a 2015 facelift insignia with a B20DTH engine which until a week ago was faultless. Cruising at 70 on the motorway, the engine just completely shut off. No warning what so ever. First thoughts were that maybe timing belt/gearing had gone.
Got it to a garage who instantly said it was dead, timing had gone. Apparently codes point to a catastrophic engine failure. Got the car to a friends to start stripping it for parts (watch this space!) but as the car was turning over (no compression) we thought we delve a little further ourselves. We got the timing belt cover off and low and behold belt is fine. Tried turning the car over and gearing is also turning. We have now retrieved the codes stored which are as follows:
P0299 Engine Underboost (history) - probably related to a broken boost pipe which was fixed.
C0035/40 - Left/Right Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Low Signal Amplitude - Current,History
U0402 - Invalid data received from TCM Invalid data - Current, History
C0561 - System disabled information stored Invalid data - current, history.
Even though this is a manual car, I understand that any fault with the TCM would stop the engine to protect it and stop it from starting. Has anyone else come across this problem? If so, was it remedied and how? Guessing it would be a new TCM at the very least. If it is a case of replacing the TCM, I'd rather spend the money replacing the module rather than scrapping a perfectly good car!
FYI- we checked oil - still there and looking ok - no evidence of any leakage or contamination. Checked coolant - again all present and correct as in no contamination.
Thanks in advance.

have you tried to just wipe the fualts and see if the car will start right after ? IF the faults come back you'll need to investigate further, but in this case i'm inclined to say just cean the main connectors on the engine and in your case the gearbox too. Wipe and see if the lot comes back or stays gone... the weather has been wet and cold/freezing lately so it might be something as simple as water ingress that is confusing the car.

Did u check the timing chain? You will say it's a belt but take off the valve cover and you will see a chain between the camshafts sprockets.

B20dth indeed does have timing belt and timing chain , the timing chain is a weak point and very often fail
