    Default Irmscher Spoiler Problem.

    All,
On both my Vectra's both preface & facelift my Irmscher rear wing spoiler has managed the work loose on the central leg. Firstly after being bonded with the black stuff from Irmscher, secondly after been stuck with araldite.

I did think of screwing a self tapper in through the boot lid but this option has now gone as when I tried to remove the spoiler to drill the pilot hole, the LH leg would not unscrew as the thread must have broke in the leg and the screw is just spinning.

I am thinking of completly removing it and fitting the VXR spoiler as i'm sick of it springing all the time.

    Anyone have any rescue suggestions?

    Cheers,

    Paul.

careful measuring and plot the loaction on the underside of the skin..did it to mine and struck dead centre..mine and my brothers are both screwed down on the centre leg with a No8 self tapper thats about 20mm long..you need 2 folks thou to put the screw in, 1 to hold the spolier from above, and 1 to use the drill driver..

Cheers Mark. I did consider this prior to bonding it last time, i removed the inner trim but couldn't find a decent angle to get the drill at from the inside.

Would have like to have drilled it from the outside but couldn't get the spoiler high enough to get the drill in!

Looks like it's the only option now though!

After speaking to ian_c at the last meet i went to, he's been warned off the spoilers with the middle leg for that exact reason. Apparently the wind creates enough lift to break the bonding.

I thought spoilers were designed to create downforce, not upforce ?? Thats a bit naughty isnt it ??

Wonder if the ones from auto tint design are any different. My DTm type one from them is bolted down by 2 nuts on each side. Though as it doesnt have a centre leg i am yet to have a problem

I got warned off them spoilers by the foreman at bodyshop where all my irmscher kit was getting put on two yeras ago and told me to go for the new one DTM spoiler not the one thats bonded in the middle as it comes lose

so that was well over two years now
the only way to make sure is to drill and tap it out

The replica one from auto tint / body-kit.co.uk has a centre bolt on it, that was the main reason I bought 1 after hearing of the irmy ones lifting, the 2nd reason being it is 1/4 price. Hows that for value !!

I'm no genious but surely it must create upforce to then add more weight on the front wheels? (Not argueing with you mate - just curious!)

It does not bother me about the middle peg ?? this second spoiler has been fitted so there is no gap so nothing to worry about. When i had the same spoiler on the car last year that used to lift more in the middle and i put it down to the garage fitting the outer pegs slightly inwards to much causing the middle to lift a little.
