Considered leaving !
Following on from the overheat thread, I guess....
Got the car rebuilt Saturday - head skimmed, running like a dream. No noises, lights, codes - nothing. Even that errant timing fault I've been carrying for years had gone. Did several short trips, then into town to shop. Came out, got in, turned starter and just got 'CLONK' - no rattle, nothing. Car then won't turn over at all - only fault code cam sensor.
Though maybe timing had slipped - got a mate to tow me home. Got my fibreoptic scope in the bores - no visible damage. Went to reset timing and can't turn it on the crank - darn well seized it !
Spent Sat / Sun progrssivly stripping it, but it's major and internal. RIP 283K engine
BUT - me being me, there's replacement on the way. Be busy next weekend ....

My mom's astra 1.8 z18xe (125 ponies) locked up without jumping timing or even giving any errors. After it started it drowned itself in coolant, that was fun but for us it wasn't worth trying to fix it since the crashed astra was repairable and in romania the 18xe is expensive as hell

Replacement engine is here and looks ok. Just waiting on a few bits to arrive so I can get it ready to fit

Full engine. 90k out of a top end Astra. Have all the details and checked past MOT's etc so believe mileage. Going to pull engine and box out the top once my crane arrives ( despite what Haynes say ) . Will take some pics as well as some of the post mortom once the old one is out. I reserve the right to resurect that one BTW !

I thought i was the only one that twisted mind set (I'll keep the thing running until the end of days!) and if i was in your shoes the old engine would be pulled apart investigated and fixed than put aside for when it's replacement acts up...

I wonder if the key has sheared on the crankshaft sprocket.
