    Default Gearbox Disaster

    Hello - I own Signum Elite 2.2. Auto 2003 67 k out of warranty
Huge problem - about 2 months ago going up M1 dreaded car and spanner appeared and gearbox was stuck in 2nd and 5th. Took it into Vauxhall who scanned it with code P0715. They said it would cost £250 to find out what the problem was but suspected water in gearbox. Being a bit short of money I decided to get a reconditioned one after they told me there had been water in gearbox once

After £1300 eveything seemed fine until yesterday when original fault appeared.

My prefered next move is to take car back to Vauxhall get fault properly diagnosed and try to get it sorted out as good will out of warranty repair (car has always been serviced at main dealers) I will then try to get my £1300 back through small claims court as I suspect the recon place just conned me

Question is has anyone ever had this fault before - I am hoping it is not actually a serious gearbox problem because although I can sue the recon place it is a lot of hastle and perhaps it is some minor electrical problem?

As far as I know water in the gear box is kind of a known problem. I´m not shure if most of vectras suffer it or just the early ones.

    Quick google on your code
    "P0715 Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit "

    If that helps at all?

It's a well known problem, Mark (GSi 3.2) knows all about this, as do Vauxhall!

There's a radiator that cools the gearbox oil, basically a seal in this goes, lets the water and gearbox oil mix and that's basically the end of it.

Probably not quite right, but probably close enough.

Yep, had a similar problem with my 2.5 TD Omega, because the engine coolant is under positive pressure when the seal blows the coolant is forced into the 'box blowing the transmission fluid out, then because the clutch plates are bonded using water soluble glue over time they disintegrate hey presto! one knackered 'box
