    Default PC Hardware Duffer List

Name it and shame it ppl, I've had a failure last night of the PSU, ok fine I hear you say go get another one, well, this one was £70 15 mths ago, I could RMA it but I know they will blame it on farting or drinking tea within a mile of it so why waste the postage, this is the second 15 mth hardware failure from the same company btw, last time it was a keyboard, not just any keyboard though, an aluminium one, just stopped working, just like the PSU, as it was out of warranty I had it apart to look for a loose wire, nope no wire off, so it had to be PCB failure, much as I suspect the PSU will be.

    And the name.....HIPER.

So until I get back to you with happy news that all has been resolved, please do not buy anything of theirs for now, it all looks nice, but when you have an ancient Q-tec unit still working and never given any hassle, it makes you wonder whose quality control is working and whose isn't doesn't it.

Samsung Syncmaster CRT monitors... a few months after the warranty expires... you get a green light but no display. (CRT's are a thing of the past.. but still... don't buy one! )

With regards to PSU's.. our oldest machines are the most reliable.. We've got Pentium 200's that are still running after 7 years of service yet our newest Dells are constantly failing.

We've just has two emachines pack up due to faulty PSU's which put out a spike and melted the motherboard They were both 4 years old though and failed about 2 months apart. There are another 2 emachines here which are pushing 5 years old, always been ok but planning to upgrade them shortly.

We've a 4 year old and 3 year old DELL (plus a brand new one to replace one of the FUBAR'd emachines) and they have been trouble free, not even any software issues.

We had a 9/10 year old Fujitsu 486 which never broke down and still works with windows 98 on it LMAO, never got round to binning it because it always works !

I can highly recomend Seasonic Power Supplies - they are built like tanks and weigh a ton but they always score well on reliability and they do provide a good constant supply even under demanding condition.

The worst item I have ever used with a PC is a Lexmark Printer
I even returned it to the retailer as faulty
Got home and the replacement was the same
Took that back and went back to good old trusty HP Printer

Last week a work colleague advised they had just bought a Lexmark Printer, but they too were convinced it wasn't working
As per usual, came to me for advice but too late!

Well I've had the opposite experience to you VV! lol I had a Q-tec supply play up some time ago so I replaced it with a Hiper one. It's been absolutely fine since I fitted it - and that was over two years ago.

Why not go all out and get a 1000W Supply.. Not that anything will need that much power.. unless you're running about 14 Processors! lol

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=446001

And it's a nice easy way to spend £200! lol

I think i paid £40 for my last power supply!
