Android Auto Unit in Signum
Hi all, hope you are well.
I wondered if anyone has successfully installed/had installed an android auto stereo system into a signum (or similar obvs) recently. What device did you go for? Wireless android auto or wired? How easy was installation, and do steering wheel controls work? How much did parts and stereo cost in total?
I'm looking into installing one to replace my cd70 in my Signum (facelift) but unsure whether to get (an expensive) one from Halfords and have them fit it or buy one from amazon/ebay etc for half the price and have a go at fitting it myself.
TIA

you'll want an expensive one to fit as the start up times of no big name brands are bad... even if they have 8gb rom and 16gb ram... big brand ones always start up in around 20 seconds, are easy to install and unlike these andriod no name ones usually only need an extra steeringwheel control module... the rest is al build in.. you might need an extra dab aerial but you could just get a splitter for that and use the existing aerial.

I have an A-Sure Windows CE fitted to my Signum, I'm going to replace it with the one I had my my old Vectra C, the older one have something called CarPlay, this allowed me to go into the settings and change the clock and also displayed the sterio mode.
I'll report back as to whether this works in the Signum tomorrow after I have fitted it.
The Vectra was an 08, the Signum is an 06.

Carplay works fine if you've got an Iphone.
But if you got an Andriod phone you'll want at least a headunit that has Andriod auto incorporated, it's the andriod version of Apple Carplay ... as most new andriod phones do not have mirrorlink anymore, plus mirrorlink is not the quickest or best experience.

Thanks for your replies, really appreciate it. Looks like I need bite the bullet and spend a bit more. I've seen a few in Halfords, anyone recommend anywhere else that will stock and fit them? I live in Stoke on Trent if anyone knows somewhere other than Halfords...

Sorry for late reply, just remembered to re-reply
The CarPlay on the head unit I have only talks to the car, I have now got the correct time and date.
When the app is running it looks like the front panel of a standard head unit.
It has only 2 useful buttons, the BC and Settings, the CD one I can't remember what that does, because I didn't use it today. The number buttons do nothing.
The radio doesn’t work, because the power is not going to the aerial, although if you get to a strong signal area it will.

Is it a Chinese unit because that isn't carplay, it's called carlink and that actually is a complete different way of connecting to the car.. it actually integrates with the boardcomputer, ECU, and OBD2 connector and has a few predefined settings that mimic the original radio.

Google is your friend to find a car-audio specialist that is nearby you that offers fitting services.... just be aware that going to one of them can seriously empty the wallet, way more than going to Halfords and pay to much for the exact same brand and model, something i did notice comparing their headunits with audio specialists that have their own websites.
the warning about car audio specialists comes in when they'll point out the sound deadening, better wiring, the optional extra's that aren't part of the headunit price etc etc etc, Halfords don't really bother that much.
