    Default Signum 2.0DTI spanner light

    Hello everyone - great forum!!

Purchased a Signum 2.0DTI about 2 weeks ago. Everything fine until a few days ago. First thing in the morning, (when the engine is dead cold), i turn the ignition on and get the spanner light come on for approx 15seconds. It makes no difference if i start the engine or not during the 15seconds. The engine starts and runs fine, however. The spanner light does not come again until the next morning, even if i leave it for a few hours. Luckily i purchased the vehicle from a vx dealer, so i've booked it in under their warranty. The guy i spoke to on the phone says it may just be an O2 sensor. Does anybody have any idea what it may be, so as i don't just get fobbed off with some lame excuse.

Also does anybody know if their is any fault code reader that will read this engine ecu. I have searched the forums but details on the protocols used on the diesel engines is very sketchy. Some people say that the car may use the new CAN-bus protocol, others say it uses a Simtec protocol. The car was registered in April 2004, so was obviously manufactured before this. I have read that the diesels didn't use the CAN-bus protocol until 'some time in 2004'. Is there any way to tell?
The website i had seen with the fault code readers was http://www.talktomycar.co.uk

Sorry this is a long (first) post, but just got a new toy, and i am full of questions.

    Many thanks

    Andrew

It should be half CANBUS (3 buttons either side of the steering wheel) and there are readers available on Flea-bay. HERE'S ONE

Welcome to the site by the way m8

    Thanks for the speedy reply.

What is half CAN-bus, and how does that compare to full CAN-bus.

The car does have 3 buttons either side of the steering wheel, but they are for the radio. How does this relate to the ecu?

    Sorry to be a pain.

    Thanks

    Andrew

Yes m8, the difference in the buttons determines which type of CANBUS you have.

I have been looking to buy a code reader for a while, as I am fed up of taking the car in after limp mode to be told no fault found sir.

Most of the readers only go upto 2004, anyone got one for a CAN-bus 05 model?

Well i took the car in today to the vx dealers for my warranty repair. They changed a glow plug, which they said was giving the error. Makes sense considering the symptoms i suppose. Definitely got to get myself a fault code reader, as don't want to be taking it into the dealer stealers next time i get mr. spanner rearing his ugly head. Especially for a glow plug!!

My sigum 2.0dti had the same problem with the spanner light, 15secs approx light goes out. Faulty glow plug changed by vauxhall dealer under warranty.
