I reset the trip computer at the top of the M6 to check it and drove conservatively to see wot it was, on a full to the neck tank it done 294 miles before the light came on, i didnt think to fill it up again afterwards.
Its not an auto GSI3.2 just seems to like a drink as for the flatspots and gutless low end i have tried the airbox mod and iridium plugs as suggested in another thread, does anyone think the EGR valve might be blocked or broken as i have seen this mentioned a bit aswell, or is it just needing traded in as its been around the block a bit 96000 miles, thanks, John.

Johny - I'd get it checked out m8.

I can get around 35/36mpg on a long motorway run (300+miles) - this is sitting at around 70-75mph and with a fully laden car (4 people + full boot!).

The V6 'idles' at around 2600rpm at 70mph though.

    Around town I get 22-25mpg.

What age is the car and which gearbox? I'm guessing a 5 speed at 3500 revs as that sounds a bit high. I had a 2.2 SRi 'B' before and that was thirsty - around 31-32 average with mainly motorway, so with a heavier car may not be far off with that gearing. The 'B' SRi was geared for performance rather than economy and could certainly have used a 6th for motorway cruising.

As SirGSI said, the 3.2 in 5th (Auto) sits around 2500 revs for 70 (bit less I find on the Elite). I currently get an average of just over 30 in mine, again mostly motorway, and that's in a 3.2! Consistent town driving hurts that a lot especially with the auto box.

Mysteryelite its a 52 reg'd 5 speed, my vectra b was always around 30- 32 aswell and i used to taxi that (quickly around the doors). Maybe i just got a bad one this time
Ihad a tinker on last night and found a bit of oil building up in the throttle body and on a sensor in there,i gave it a good dose of carb cleaner and it seems to give it a bit more pull from low revs hopefully this might help the mpg's, thanks for all the input, John.
