    Default 2006 Signum issues

I've got a 2006 Signum 2.2i Elegance and I've got a few issues with it. The first is an intermittent spanner light. The car will cold start every now and then and bring on the warning light. I've had the code read and its P0340, camshaft sensor position fault. The garage said they won't look at it as its out of their knowledge and the sensor might not be the issue.

The 2nd is the safeguard error. I've locked myself in the car and opened all the doors to set off the alarm. With the key in the ignition I've opened doors to check for the light which all bar the bonet bring on. The drivers door is the only one that pings when open. I've ordered a new bonet sensor but if anyone has any ideas.

The final issue is the windscreen wipers. They are intermittent at banging when open and when closed, every now and then they get jammed open.

These are driving me nuts, I love the car so won't get rid.

you are running the 2.2i direct you should not be tanking the cheaper petrol you need to stick to premium petrol only (the higher octane stuff) the bio content in the cheaper fuel will destroy your HPFP and other fuel components such as fuel-pipes and the in-tank lift-pump) that might be the reason why you got the intermittent fault popping up... it can be upgraded to run the cheaper fuel but it is expensive.

windscreen wipers probably best to replace the motor and mechanism for a used set of a scrapped car, but only after you've cleaned the wiper stalk connections and it still acts up.

for the alarm you should have the ecu read out as it leaves a DTC, but you'll need tech2 (or op-com) to see what is acting up.

That was something I checked when buying the car. I only fill up with BP ultimate.

The windscreen wipers I'm going to look at today. Go away next week in it and need them working.

I got the codes read for safeguarding a couple of months ago. The guy that did it said he didn't know what they meant.

B2955: Anti theft warning sensor data link/horn Malfunction
    B3916: Power sounder Malfunction
B3078: anti theft warningsystem ultra sonic sensor/horn signal circuit Malfunction

you'll worst case = replacement power sounder.. it is in located in the back on the ns where the rec is... now i don't know if they are easy to code in but i had problems with mine and a simple cleanup of the contacts did the trick. also make sure that the cable it connects to isn't broken.

back to your intermittent spanner light: if you don't have any codes... when it pops up again wait for the spanner light to pop up and leave the car running until you've readout the code. but if you want to make sure it's not just the sensor slowly giving up, just replace it (they don't last forever)

Where would I find both power sounder and sensor? Not car savvy at all.

the ultra sonic-sensor: if you've got a hatchback you've got 2 one for the interior(hidden in the base of the rear view mirror) the other on the rear windshield... the latter is known for causing problems ( basically the wire breaks, can usually be soldered back on( it's hidden behind the trim, so the trim will need to be removed to get to it)

the powersounder is located on the inside of the ns rear wheel-well, mounted on with a bolt to a cradle that holds it in place (if you stand behind the car and look at the REC, it's mounted behind it) you'll need to remove the boot trim on the NS to get to it.

It's not difficult to get to once you've removed the trim, disconnect the powersounder, open it up and inspect the lot also check the flat wire-cable isn't broken because if it is 9 out of 10 times it'll need replacing with a new one or a good used one from a specialist breakers like Vaux-parts (they are on eBay)

So it's going to cost a fortune to get someone to fix it for me? I have no idea how to remove the trim without ruining it and damaging anything else.

That is when you look up how it is done on youtube or go through the how2's on the forum if you have access to them.
