    Default Shock Absorbers

I have had my Signum 2.2dti 04plate for 12months now, it always had a strange intermittant wobble heading out of a bends until recently when i discovered a snapped spring f/o/s. Got both fronts swapped under warranty. The handling is better but not 100%, I replaced my 2 rear shocks cos they became noisy and were leaking the original Y4 shocks superseeded by BH so the vauxhall parts guy claims. Lot quieter from the back now. I was debating whether to change the front shocks as i get a rumble from 20mph upwards comming from the front, could the broken spring of worn out the front shocks prematurely? are they difficult to change?

they are easy to change IF you know what you're doing and have the appropriate tools at your disposal.., for instance it takes me about 20 minutes to amble through changing one on the front as i've got airtools and know how to get them out..

it's unlikely that a damper assy will cause a 'rumble'..most noises like that are down to either tyres or bearings..is is speed related at all?

it doesnt appear to be speed related, I will ring around for some prices for new front shocks. If the shocks dont sort it then maybe try the bearing. I am amazed how much a difference changing the rear shocks made, noise and clunking all gone. The rear shocks were easy to change, but maybe i'd be taking on to much with the fronts. Unless there is a step by step idiots guide around anywhere?

    Default Rumble

    Hi GSI,
Got a quote for 2 shocks from a local vauxhall dealer £71.09 each inc vat, got intouch with another dealer via ebay any he can supply me with 2 of exactly the same part numbers for £43.10 each inc vat, plus £10 P&P for the two. So i asked for a price for fitting from my local dealer £255.56 for the two, they claim it takes 1.5 hours each side. There is a vauxhall specialist called Lloyds Motors in Ellesmere Port where all the astra manufactoring plant employees use, where they will just charge labour and people can supply there own parts. They quoted 2 hours at £35 plus vat per hour. Huge difference! in youre experience do you think i should get hold of any other parts other than just the shocks? the springs are new and got swapped under warranty cos 1 snapped, but there is alot of talk on here about spring seat mod?

although the shocks arnt leaking since having new shocks on the rear ive noticed when i come to a stop release the brake then apply the brake again the car rocks like a pram, it can only be the front shocks do you think? Its had new front springs, new rear shocks, there aint anything left other than the front shocks now?

any help much appreciated. Regards Gary.

    Hi GSI,
Took delivery of 2 front shocks 2day and 2 nylon seat mods and a front o/s bearing all for less than £150 inc delivery. All i gotta do now is get them fitted. Where on the springs do the nylon mods fit and any instuctions on fitting shocks and bearings on the forum?
    Many Thanks,
    Gary.

I wouldn't use Vx shockers if you can avoid them, seems a weak point on all Vx cars, my Omega shot a set out in 30k due to leaks, and a lot of the other lads have had the same experience, our tester actually had a brand new one on the ramp with a leak one day.

the spring mods fit to the lower end of the coil that sits in the spring pan on the damper...and as of yet.. (even though i've changed loads for folks on here) there isn't a how-2 for it yet....
