confused Dash light for blown bulb, but no blown bulb

    Hey guys,

got a really annoying intermittent fault, happens daily. The dash warning light telling me a bulb has blown keeps going on and off. Itís linked to rear lights, as happens when I brake. Iíll get it once or twice every time I drive it.

All bulbs are good, all work. Anyone have any ideas where to start looking for faults?

Look in the correct troubleshooting section not this open one, lots of info but not knowing if yours is estate or hatch then hard to advise. This issue should be in only electrical but you might find it in bodywork also.

Could be oxidised contacts in bulb socket ...it happened to me too.

it happens to everyone that owns a vectra/signum/astra/zafira/corsa (and the rest of the model line up) from the same era... always the same solution as stated above... but if a cleanup doesn't sort it out... a replacement light cluster is the only solution to sort it out (it's actually the main plate bit that holds the bulbs that needs to be replaced) and very seldom it's a wiring issue (ranging from a loose pin in the connector to wire damage)

ps replace both bulbs to make sure it's not just a bulb going as the canbus system used on these cars is very sensitive and picks up on that too.

Appreciate the answers guys, thanks! The annoying thing is it doesn’t say what bulb or part of the circuit is at fault, front or rear, although I’m pretty sure it’s rear. It’s there a way to test these light clusters?

use the good old obd2 to read it out... but you'll need either tech2 or the not talked about OP-COM.... alternatively do the pedal dance... or do as you should do and just pull out the rear light clusters bulb holders and investigate.

I’ve got the torque app on my iPhone with OBD2 wireless scanner which is great at reading live data, but haven’t seen anything regarding lights unfortunately. OP COM / tech2 are options which I don’t have available to me.

You will be amazed but if you pull out your rear lights you might see that at least one of them will be blacker than the other, that one will blow up soon for sure. They don't usually blow out in the second you get the light in the dash as they still make a fair good enough contact to still bright.
I have replaced recently a rear brake light when the check control told me a brake light was out. Guess what? It took me 4 days to swap it and it was still working but it was blacker than the other wich was a sign that the bulb will go out soon. This being said, check all your bulbs, there will be one at fault.
The other thing to check is bad connection but that takes time while checking a bulb takes like 10 minutes.
