I am looking to get a Digital SLR Camera to replace my older Minolta Dimage 7i. Whilst I have my eye on one in particular, I was wondering what those of you could say would be worth considering.

I agree totally with Duncan.
Although - the Canon EOS 400D seems to be a winner as a Starter Camera - With a Wide array of Canon Accessories as you decide to build up the kit.

got a fuji finepix S5600 dirt cheap from argos, last time they reduced em the VVOC crowd bought the lot. Great camera and really easy to use.
Hi Duncan. Photography is one of my hobbies, I tend to take a lot of landscape photos and photos of National Trust proporties, Photos of the cars, I was thinking of a zoom lens too. Rarther than several lens,s. With my SLR camers [wet film] I have loads of different lenses, but now I prefer to just have the one lens [mind you I might change my mind later], I was looking for at least 10mega pixels too.
Careful of the non SLR digital cameras - they usually suffer from shutter lag and last year we got loads of piccies of whales tails just disappearing in the water.
Resolved it by buying an entry level Nikon D40 which all my wet film Nikon lenses and Sb24 flash fit, albeit at the expense of autofocus. I am very impressed by the D40 since I don't need 10MP (it is 6) and very simple plus light in weight. Since got a 55-200 zoom for catching birdlife in the back garden and sailing shots. I have been a fan of Nikon cameras for years and this is no exception - you might look at the D80

We have a Canon 10D, 30D, 5D and 1d MkII and all have been wonderfull and never let us down. I think thats all they give you over th Nikon kit as I hear people sending them for service quite often. Maybe we are just lucky. The only Canon kit I have had to take in for service was an L series lense.

If your looking for something in the 10MP range - then Take a look at the Canon EOS 400D, or if you want to go down the Nikon Road, then the New D80 is supposed to be Very nice.
Hi Ed,
I have recently taken up photography as a hobby..
For my first Digital SLR I have gone for the Olympus E-500.
It has 8mp, endless 'auto' settings but also limitless manual settings to be playing around with.
I bought the camera from Ebuyer, it came with a 14-45mm lens & also a 40-150mm lens. It takes xd cards & compact flash.
The price for the twin lens kit was only £375.
Unfortunately the weather this week has been against me as I've been desperate to get out and about.
I know the camera has been around a while, it was released at the end of 2005.
With it being my first venture into 'proper' photography I thought the spec's and the price were about right, just incase I couldn't master anything.!!
