I have had what feels like a terrible wheel shake or flat spot on a wheel for a while now. Tried three different set of wheels and got alignment done, and suspension checked by garage.
it starts from 15mph and up, following the speed of the car. Have checked all wheels for play when lifted up, nothing. No change when accelating, braking or cornering. The rear doesn’t feel loose either.
The other day I was able to feel/hear some play in the rear, when pulling/pushing top of the wheel with car on the ground. I can only make this happen sometimes, if I drive the car around the block I might not be able to replicate the play. When it is there, I can do it from both sides and when it’s gone none of the sides will do it.
Any ideas what this most likely can be and how I can find out? I’m thinking banana arms or maybe wheel bearing, but can this cause me to jump up and down inside the car?
Thanks
I have the exact same problem you are describing. Mine starts at 30mph.
wheels balanced multiple times, alignment spot on (done on hunter machine), swapped wheels with different sets, no play in any of the wheels, no play in track rods/ends. Replaced top mounts, new coilovers, new wishbones, replaced brakes all round, checked entire suspension for play, replaced both drive shafts and half shaft.
feels like one of the tyres has a flat spot (it doesn’t), only thing I have noticed is it seems to be ok for the first 5mins in the morning when it’s cold.
does it in/out of gear. Does it with clutch pressed/depressed.
I’m stumped and now leaning towards wheel bearings as that’s the only thing that hasn’t been changed. So good luck
