the old one probably was dented because people like to slam the hatch closed... just like how some people just slam the bonnet closed.. in those cases you'll always notice if you replace the buffer that it doesn't sit flush. seen this on multiple cars, and always happens when the car is being treated heavy handed..

I wouldn't have used 5w30 as it clearly burned during it's use in your engine.. the red staining ( it's that bad it's even on the spark plugs) and the gritty particles are all signs of burned oil... I'd flush the engine a few times and put in a thicker grade oil... either 5w40 or a 0w40 as long as it's full synthetic it'll do a better job at lubricating the engine and not burning thus creating those particles that can block the oil channels and cause more engine ware that will lead to engine parts failing....

yes, yes, i know vauxhall oem oil is 5w30... but the same engines and cars carrying the Opel brand in Mainland Europe get 5w40 full synthetic and do not stain red like yours... I hope people take note of this as I'm starting to get tired of the disregard of most owners because they see the signs yet it doesn't click in their brains that just maybe they should switch oils as clearly it doesn't do it's job.... PROTECTING THE ENGINE!

I might do the 5w40 next. I just used the oem oil spec when ordering. I hadnít performed any research.

I need to keep an eye on it anyway as I may need to do the oil pan gasket also.

read the owners manual section on oil you'll notice that 5w30 is just one of the recommended engine oils...

your brakefluid reservoir tells me the brake fluid is older than 3 years... ( it's to dark) same goes for your coolant expansion tank... so don't wait to long to replace those
and while you are at it... drop the gearbox oil and put fresh oil in, you'll notice how much smoother the gear changes will be after a refresh... FYI lifetime oil means 10 years as that is the max time a manufacturer wants to deal with a car... so change it too. if you are wondering it's the F17 box on your car so any 75w90 will do, as they are all in spec for your gearbox.

    Hello,

Had my ac gassed a month ago and it not longer works.

Am I correct in thinking the condenser is toast? Looks a lot like oil on the condenser, there is also a lot of stone dints and what appears to be shiny marks under the UV light:

    Anyone have any thoughts?

    Thanks
